DD is almost 6 weeks - no one likes our chosen name... Haven't registered her yet! I just don't know what to do :( there are lots of threads on the name, but they always get negative replies, so I doubt they end up using it. I love it... My mum isn't keen, but she keeps telling me to use it (in all fairness, she has always said that I should go with what I love) but DP's family hate it. Everyone on here hates it and say that they judge people with that name, so it puts me off. Grace would be the middle name and it's just unfortunate that it's now classed as a filler middle name (I've always loved Grace) but DP doesn't like it, so he agreed to have it for the middle. I suppose it just makes it even worse as it's a known middle name for the name.

I'm literally getting myself so upset over it.

People on Mumsnet tend to favour quite pedestrian names, so I can see why they don't like Madison.

It is a lovely name though. I think you should register her quickly before you are pressured to change your mind.

grufallosfriend · 20/06/2017 06:50

Wouldn't life be boring if we all liked and chose the same names?

MissBax · 20/06/2017 06:49

I really like Madison, OP :)

howthelightgetsin · 20/06/2017 06:46

I would use it if I were you I mean. I wouldn't use it myself because it's not one of my favourite names.

howthelightgetsin · 20/06/2017 06:45

I wouldn't use it personally but quite like the sound of it. I wouldn't judge it, and I'll be perfectly honest - I do judge the parents who choose some awful names (like with hyphens). Madison is NOT in that camp.
I would use it.

newbian · 20/06/2017 01:32

The thread I saw this week about Madison was specifically someone whose cousin was already called Madison and she wanted to name her coming baby the same. The cousin has ASD and the aunt said using the same name would cause some issues. In that context people told the OP it's not the worlds most amazing name that you should reuse it and cause family drama.

Ginger782 · 20/06/2017 01:29

OP I'm disappointed. I read the original post and was hoping for Chardonnay, Mercedes or similar.

Madison Grace is perfectly mainstream and normal! Grin

notangelinajolie · 20/06/2017 01:17

Do it.

Ceebs85 · 20/06/2017 00:54

Bloody hell I was expecting something chavtastic. Madison Grace is nice!

Biggest mistake is telling people and letting them give you their opinion.

Dixiestamp · 20/06/2017 00:49

DS best friend is a Madison and she's the loveliest child ever! Lovely name.

Bluefrog26 · 19/06/2017 23:51

If you love it then use it. I really regret not pushing for my favorite name. Took us so long to decide.

HomeFree55 · 19/06/2017 23:33

Love Madison! As she grows everyone who loves her will grow to love the name because its hers - if that makes any sense

Oddsocksforeveryone · 19/06/2017 23:25

Madison is a lovely name.
In October I will probably be giving birth to a Zephaniah, pretty sure everyone will hate the name but it doesn't matter because we like it.
Don't give up a name you love, unless you find something you like more.

WithCheesePlease · 19/06/2017 23:18

I think that's a really cool name! I actually cringe at a lot of the name suggestions on here, so I'm pretty hard to please, but I really like that! (Not that the opinion of some random person matters)

rightwhine · 19/06/2017 23:17

I thought it was going to one of the really horrible ones - like Tarquin.

Madison's is fine.

MakChoon · 19/06/2017 23:14

We had mil family hate for both of our DC's names (and the surname too but that's a whole 'nother story). We ignored it and went ahead anyway and have never regretted it.

Both of our children frequently get complimented on their names and the family members who didn't like their names haven't said a thing since.

Call YOUR baby whatever you and your DH want, everyone will get used to it and soon no-one will care that they didn't get a say in a name which quite frankly, has nothing to do with them. They've had their turn, it's now yours.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 19/06/2017 23:14

apple

I worked as a dinner lady for 8 years in an infant school

I only knew one madison (a few maddies)

And she was lovely

All the maddies were lovely

ifcatscouldtalk · 19/06/2017 23:14

You won't find a name that everyone likes, that is impossible. On mumsnet I've seen my own daughter's name described as beautiful, classic, dull, boring, meh and zzzz Grin. Goodness sake, choose whatever you want and congrats.

PoohBearsHole · 19/06/2017 23:07

I couldn't call my child Madison/Madeleine/ Maddie BUT add was born just after Madeleine M was taken.

But my opinion matters little, you might HATE dds name and you know what? I couldn't give two hoots because we love it. You love it so DAMN well keep it. If gps can't see past a name then SHAME on them.

Teachers see the child not the name, they see the parents, not the name, they see the behaviour, not the name.

Your Madison/Maddie will be her own little person, her name won't dictate her future. Although I might say differently if you actively gave the name "Twinkle Bottom Picklehead" but I'd not judge the child, just you for choosing a slightly bonkers name. Which Maddie/Madison is not.

GO REGISTER HER

AppleSmoothie · 19/06/2017 23:07

@JennyOnAPlate would you judge if you heard the name though?

Thanks all!

JennyOnAPlate · 19/06/2017 23:06

I don't like it but fuck what anyone else thinks op!

NSEA · 19/06/2017 23:01

I wanted Madison. Its lovely. Use it

BakedBeeeen · 19/06/2017 23:00

Ditto - I think it's incredibly rude to criticise a child's name after it has been born! Madison is a nice name and fairly inoffensive - how silly of your PIL to get so worked up about it. Go ahead and name her and soon everyone will be used to that being her name IYSWIM.

rainbowpie · 19/06/2017 22:59

Madison is lovey! Everyone else can jog on. Not their child, not their decision. They will soon love it as they will associate with your lovely girl.

buttercup54321 · 19/06/2017 22:57

Madison Grace is lovely xx
