DD is almost 6 weeks - no one likes our chosen name... Haven't registered her yet! I just don't know what to do :( there are lots of threads on the name, but they always get negative replies, so I doubt they end up using it. I love it... My mum isn't keen, but she keeps telling me to use it (in all fairness, she has always said that I should go with what I love) but DP's family hate it. Everyone on here hates it and say that they judge people with that name, so it puts me off. Grace would be the middle name and it's just unfortunate that it's now classed as a filler middle name (I've always loved Grace) but DP doesn't like it, so he agreed to have it for the middle. I suppose it just makes it even worse as it's a known middle name for the name.

I'm literally getting myself so upset over it.

Beautiful names! Congratulations xxx

steppemum · 20/06/2017 10:04

It is lovely,
use it ignore the ones who don't like it, as soon as it is dds name they will just associate it with your lovely dd and the name will become lovely by association

missedith01 · 20/06/2017 10:03

It is your and your DPs choice, no-one else's.

(It's not relevant but I love Madison too ...)

AreWeThereYet000 · 20/06/2017 10:00

I'm a Maddie (Madeleine) and always wished I was a Madison instead as I love the Maddie part x

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 20/06/2017 09:58

Madison is a lovely name Smile

ImogenTubbs · 20/06/2017 08:28

Madison's cute. I wouldn't judge someone on their name. It's not like you're calling her Diamond Princess Tiara, is it? Stick with what you love. No name is universally liked and if you go with something you don't really love you'll regret it.

Decsbetterhalf · 20/06/2017 08:24

Perfect name! My god daughter is a Madison

PlymouthMaid1 · 20/06/2017 08:22

I teach two Madisons at present, both lovely.

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 20/06/2017 08:19

You like it that's all that matters. Fwiw it's a perfectly nice name, definitely ignore your family.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 20/06/2017 08:16

Call your baby Madison, and don't consider anyone else's opinion. She's yours.

mummag · 20/06/2017 08:15

I know two gorgeous wonderful teenagers called Madison. People are weird about names. I would go with it if you still love it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 20/06/2017 08:14

There's nothing wrong with the name Madison. They're being arseholes.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 20/06/2017 08:12

Its fine. Theres no such thing as a "naughty child" name just snobby arseholes.

booellesmum · 20/06/2017 08:05

Lovely name.
I wouldn't change it.
MIL openly said she didn't like DD2s name but 12 years on and doesn't seem to have caused a major issue.

harderandharder2breathe · 20/06/2017 08:03

God I thought you were going to say Pixie-Mai or something!

Madison Grace is lovely. The reason there have been several threads is because several parents, like you, have liked it.

Pick the name you love and maybe consider getting some less rude friends?

WS12 · 20/06/2017 07:42

Keep it Hun, it is a beautiful name!! And they will love her for who she is and the love for her name will follow 💕😊 go with your heart as that's really important xxx

JennyOnAPlate · 20/06/2017 07:35

No I wouldn't judge at all op. Honestly, don't worry about what anyone else might think. You'd find someone to hate every name out there if you tried.

silkpyjamasallday · 20/06/2017 07:20

Madison is fine, it isn't to everyone's taste but it's not as if you are calling her Cristal or something else hideous and tacky. My dd is named after DPs nana, and my family told me (after a while) that they weren't sure about it when we announced it when we knew she would be a she, but my DM said recently that although she wasn't keen initially that they can't imagine her with any other name, especially not my alternative choice of Jemima being more popular initially, it just wouldn't suit her so I'm glad we went with what we did. Whatever you chose would eventually 'make sense'

BendydickCuminsnatch · 20/06/2017 07:19

Aw it's so sad that your family have made you feel this way!! Not cool. I actually chose Madison out of various options on TWO threads this week! It's punchy and strong and way better than some frilly abominations! And Maddy/ie is sweet too. Please do what you and DH/P want!

RebelRogue · 20/06/2017 07:12

I'm a self confessed name snob. However..

  1. It's a real name.
  2. It's spelled correctly not some made up version like Maddeeson or whatever
  3. It's a nice name.

Go for it.

Trollspoopglitter · 20/06/2017 07:12

Never mind what a bunch of strangers think of a hypothetical name.... "... but DP's family hate it."

They say this to you as you are holding baby Madison?!!!!

flumpybear · 20/06/2017 07:08

Madison is fine!!! I though it was going to be something really bizarre like Tinkerbelle or cupcake or something lol - ignore the family!!

I have a DD called Tabitha which my parents hated ..... she's 8 and LOVES her name ❤️

Go for it!!

RueDeDay · 20/06/2017 07:01

Madison is a perfectly fine name.

Just a quick heads up though Apple, name anxiety is a possible marker for PND... It's not always stereotypical depression, sometimes it manifests as anxiety. I'm not, of course, saying that you definitely have PND, but look after yourself and get help if this is symptomatic of wider anxiety... I wish someone had picked it up when I was stressing about DD's name!!

Hooleywhipper · 20/06/2017 07:00

Beautiful name 🌻

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 20/06/2017 06:53

Personally I'm not keen but it's a standard name these days. No one was keen on my DD's name, which is a shortening of her classic full name - I mean not even DH. I stuck to my guns and she has become the name. She couldn't be anything else and she loves it herself which is a result, as I was never that keen on my own.
