I love, but interested in others opinions.

If you're not keen, what do you like that has a similar vibe.

I read the same article re telegraph. Arthur and Ottolie were most announced baby names in the telegraph I think?

Despite that, I love the name and have only met one irl. I suggested it for DC1 and got a massive thumbs down from DH (boo).

Yes would certainly spell it correctly, that was my error on an early morning post. Not a fan of different spellings. Thanks all!

I like it as pronounced by French people (Oh-TEEL-ie) or German (Oh-tee-Lia is how my Herman friend says it is pronounced there) but absolutely hate the UK pronunciation (Otterly). Just sounds like otters and utterly butterly.

I really dislike it - it's one of my most hated names (sorry). To my ears it's just pretentious and ugly.

Yeah, it's traditionally spelt Ottilie, not Otillie. Since it's quite an unusal name, I think spelling it "properly" would probably be best for your future DD. (If you use it of course).

I'm another who quite likes it in the French accent, but I'm not sure about it as "Otterly"

I think the name is marmite - I used to hate it and now love it. I believe the spelling is either Ottilie (English) or Othilie (French).

Went through a stage of loving this name but DH said he couldn't say it without thinking of Otters, and then my Mum said 'urgh that's awful' so that did it for me.

Only 411 in the UK, but it was in the top 10 for Daily Telegraph announcements- that from that what you will!

Love it. We have some friends with a little Ottilie, otherwise I'd use it myself if DC2 turns out to be a girl.

I like it, very pretty, but agree with PP that might not sound so appealing in some regional accents.

And it's spelt Ottilie, 2 Ts and one L.

Possible alternatives: Elodie / Amelie / Delphine / Cecily / Briony ?

The Utterly Otterlies was a childhood book the DC loved so I can't hear the name without thinking about it. Not a negative association as such. I've only met one Ottilie. Similar names (to me): Cicely, Lettice, Christabel.

I live it, and just after we named DD I asked DH why we hadn't considered it.

DH said "utterly bitterly".

I'm not keen as just don't like the sound it makes. Names which I think have a similar vibe: Delilah, Cressida, Lavinia, Lois.
