The Elliot character on Scrubs was called that because her parents wanted a girl. The joke is that she's a girl who's been given a boy's name. If that's the impression you want to make, go right ahead.

There was a character on the TV show Scrubs, who was a female doctor called Elliot. That was the first time I heard that name so when I heard Elliot being used for a boy I was like "Wait what?"

Long story short, I like this name on a girl :)

Indiemaria is correct to say it was previously a girl's name. Unisex, to be strictly accurate.

In mediaeval times there was both a feminine and masculine form of Ellis - the male name was a form of Elias and the female a variant of Alice. Both used Eliot as a diminutive form.

I read that Back in the 1800's Elliotte was a girls name. Like Charlotte is to Charles and Harriette is to Harold / harry, Elliotte is to Elijah. In Australia they even have lady elliott island so it is feminine and I love it. So much so that my daughter is called elliotte x

I'm a girl with a definite boys name and I would urge you not to do it to her. There are so many beautiful yet strong and sassy names out there. Don't subject her to a life of explaining her name or dreading when someone asks.

Ellis is also a boy's name (in the top hundred for boys in the UK)

Elliott is very popular as a boy's name round here.

If you want to give a girl a boy's name, then this meets the criteria. And it's quite as bad a Max or James.

I thought Elliot was a girl's name when I first heard it. It sounds so feminine. I can totally see it on a girl.
