Hello all,

Wondering about the name Sebastian.... I love it but not so in love with Seb. OR Bas!

Does anyone know of any other shortened nicknames for a Sebastian?

TIA! x

@Sophronia, I also know one that goes by Seabass... Does "yours" live in Hawaii?

Piratesandpants · 14/06/2017 16:00

I know a Sebastian, he is known as Sebastian.
Nicknames aren't obligatory...
I have a long name and occasionally correct people if they try to shorten it. Job done.

ThatGirl82 · 14/06/2017 15:56

I used to know a Sebastian who went by Bassie.

Basty

My Sebastian gets Seb, which I'm not wild about. He got Bas or Bassie when he was tiny.

redladybird · 14/06/2017 13:32

I love the name Sebastian and quite like Seb as a NN.

DS1 is Sebastian and gets a mixture of his full name, Seb and Sebbie.

More often than not people use his full name including all his teachers.

The way I see it is that at the moment he's only 4 so I can call him what I like but it's his name and at some point as he gets older he'll tell us his preference and we'll be stuck with that regardless!

A lot of boys/men end up using their surname as a nickname. So Seb isn't inevitable, just likely. I have a Sebastian and fortunately I liked the nicknames associated with his name which is one of the reasons we picked it. So far though (and he is only four). His mates either call him his full name or Bastian 🙊

Womble75 · 13/06/2017 14:00

You don't have to have a nickname. DD has a name that has many variations but she has always been "full name" and woe betide anyone who shortens it - she soon puts them straight! We have nicknames or pet names for her but none are a derivative of her actual name.

Caprianna · 13/06/2017 13:52

I have a Sebastian who is known as Seb, Bassy and Sebbylicious. We call him Sebastian and he will always introduce himself as Sebastian.

Hekabe · 13/06/2017 13:46

Great suggestions there- thank you.
though Seb seems to be the winner! It's not that I don't like it- just not keen. I've heard of other Sebastian's being shorterned with other things and just could t remember them. Suppose if we go that way I shall have to resigned to Seb!

Seabass did make me giggle...

Every Sebastian I know goesby Seb. I see it as an inevitable nickname like Samuel with Sam and and Benjamin nn Ben

Sophronia · 13/06/2017 08:23

I know one who goes by Seabass! Grin

SleepFreeZone · 13/06/2017 07:49

It will be Seb.

BelafonteRavenclaw · 13/06/2017 07:48

The 3 I know go by Seb, Sebby and Baz.

SuperBeagle · 13/06/2017 07:48

The one I know is Seb.

I'd avoid the name if you don't like Seb

LarrytheCucumber · 13/06/2017 07:47

First Sebastian I encountered was known as Basty and it wasn't intended as a compliment. Seb is the most usual shortening, so perhaps you need a rethink.

MiniMaxi · 13/06/2017 07:42

Bastian? The only other one I can think of...
