Stephenson or Williamson?

We don't think double-barrelling is a good idea: they end in the same sound and are both long! We each think our surname is the best which do you prefer?

I like Noah Reuben William Stephenson. Nothing wrong with two middle names, especially if both names are important to you (and it stops the "wah" sound of Noah running into the "wi" of William).

They both sound very distinguished names. I'm glad this thread is about actual surnames. I was going to say that this surname as first name thing is getting out of hand.

My sister has two middle names, I have just the one not bitter we are children from 1972/74. It's hardly a new concept.

Noah Stephenson rolls off the tongue.

Noah Williamson peters into Edward Woodward territory (actor, was in The Equaliser tv series in the 70s and the original film of The Wicker Man). If you take all the Ds out of his name you're left with Ewar Woowar.

'nowawilliamson' too many Ws. Sounds inelegant.

Noah Stephenson sounds better. Absolutely no reason why your DS shouldn't have your name or his - I also don't go down the tradition route. I gave my DD my name, was nicer than DP's. 2 middle names is fine, they're not going to use them all the time anyway, just for official purposes.

@Tattybogle89 because I don't see why his surname is more important. I'm really not into this whole 'tradition' thing. Neither is my partner. We think it's best to double-barrel if possible, but if not, the one that's the nicest/best

If 2 middle names is no good, we would rather keep Reuben. It's very important to us.

No need to be rude cheeseman.. Was a genuine question. I didnt think people chose babies surname based on what sounded better. Not being unkind just unusual to my ear when parents are together

Williamson won't have any (many?) spelling issues. Do you ever have problems with Stephenson/Stevenson OP?

The -wah ending of Noah does not sound right with the immediate Wi- sound of Williamson, in my opinion. Noah Stephenson sounds MUCH better.

Also think two middle names is fine.

Well the names mean son of Steven and Son of William.

There's nothing in it IMO, so maybe if baby is a girl you go with mothers name or if it's a boy you go with fathers name?

Go for the 2 middle names. It's fine, once you e announced the name people don't really bother about middle names.

Are you likely to have any more children? I'd go with Noah Ruben Stephen Williamson so that if you ever a had girl you could use Stephanie Williamson as a 2nd middle and surname

Williamson is slightly easier to say.

I think Stephenson is! And I also think Noah goes better with it. I don't think his name is too long. He won't use the whole thing often anyway.

Stephenson is my surname 🙈 I really like the idea of putting William/Stephen as a middle name. He'd be Noah Reuben William Stephenson - is it too long? We really want Reuben to stay.
