Some names like Pixie, Dilly, Binky etc?

Hi i know these names are not to everyone's taste but we are after a name that is more "nicknamey" like these above(we might have a longer name on BC depending on the name)

Would love more suggestions

I'm not calling you dense, but there are many people (my friend Tiggy's parents included) who actually think Binky was christened Binky, and therefore it would be a good posh name to copy

I love these types of names. But they always have a much more formal long name and are just nicknames which have evolved over time.

Some really harsh comments here. Would be very boring if we all liked the same things wouldn't it.

Woah spare that's a little harsh. In no way am i trying to be percieved as middle class, i even said that Binky is not a name we are considering it was just an example of names we like. AND i said if it is not an acceptable name we will use a full name on BC as well, so i really don't see how i am dense

These are so excruciatingly try-hard

No matter how desperate you are to be perceived as upper middle class, a cutesy nickname won't do it, even it is copying the nickname of someone in the public eye because you are too dense to realise it is a nickname.

I know a Tiggy, who's parents thought it was a real name because of Tiggy Legge-Bourke (real name: Alexandra) and she hates it
I know someone else who goes by Dizzy for pretty much everything, but is still able to put Isabelle on her CV and in her email addresses because she said she would be unemployable in her chosen field if her actual name was Dizzy

Some of these names sound like the list at the pet rescue shelter where they are having to name a sudden influx of dozens of small furry things, and they have run out of imagination

Dd1 17yrs went to school with a Bumble Bea which was nn of either Beatrice or Beatrix(I can't remember which).

I had one of those nicknames until I started secondary school. Then I chose to use my real name even though it is equally as horrible, but in a fuddyduddy kind of way. With no middle name. If you are going to do this, please have at least one name on the BC that's middle of the road.

Having said that, I do like many of the suggestions, especially Emmy 's suggestions.

I have not one but two of these nicknames .

I have a three syllable BC name which I couldn't pronounce correctly as a child. Everyone knows what this name is, but I'm called by one or other of the two nicknames by almost everyone I know, even in middle age.

Like many other things on Mumsnet, I think your social class will affect your reaction to it.
