Would Hugo and Cuba clash?

Do you think the names Hugo and Cuba go well together? Every time I say them together out loud they sound almost 'clunky' and difficult to say together! I'm not sure if it is just me that thrills this. Other possible boys names that we have are Gabriel, Tristan, Isaiah and Sasha.

Hmm maybe I will have a rethink on Cuba as a first name then and choose it as a middle name instead.

I know two brothers called Kuba and Hugo, they're Polish. I've always liked their names, never thought they sounded odd at all.

Hm yep, they definitely clash, and to be honest I don't really like Cuba as a name (but then I am not a fan of place names in general). Your other ideas go much better, maybe Cuba as a wild card middle name? Tristan Cuba sounds like a spy in a novel or an international business mogul.

Cuba from Jacob sounds odd.

Kuba (pronounced "KOOba") is the short form of the Polish version Jakub, which is properly pronounced "YAK-oob".

In answer to the original question, I don't think they go particularly well together, but more because of the style than the fact that they have a similar sound in them. I agree with the others who have said that Hugo goes better with Tristan or Gabriel.

The other names go well. Spoilt for choice!

(I was going to suggest Jasper or Orlando but don't want to muddy the waters).

That was my first thought. Ok for a couple of cats if you're an 80's student union leader but otherwise no.

(Hugo is nice btw, but I'd steer clear of Cuba as a name).

I find the combo a bit tongue twistery to say together. I love Hugo but unsure whether Cuba complements it.

It's a weird name. I don't understand naming your child after a country, but it's particularly weird the country is a bit of a hellhole.

The only Cuba I am aware of is the American actor, the Hugo's I have met have been mildly posh English Home Counties types. Though I do not think it really matters.

Very easily entwined and easy to mix up.

And yes, they do sound odder together.

I keep wanting to say Hugo and Cubo.

Sounds too tongue twistery to me. Also feels like two very different styles of name (if that matters)

Tristan is a great name though and goes brilliantly with Hugo.

Hugo & Cuba seem very different & don't really go that well...

Kuba (with a 'k') is becoming more common now in some areas. It's the shortened version of Jakub/Jacob.

At my DC's school, there's one in nearly every year group (high numbers of children with EAL), so no one would think it was all that unusual.

They clash a bit - both the sounds together and the fact that they're such different styles of name.
