Julian - What do you think?

I have a sudden love of this name and feel quite inspired to use it.

I think it ticks lots of boxes - nice nick name with Jules, not too popular, not unheard of, easy to pronounce and has a nice musicality to it.

Downsides - is it perceived as a bit pompous?

I really don't like the name Julian. Very pompous sounding, and can't imagine saying it without a posh voice....'juuuulian'

9 year old Molly had some peculiar tastes! Mind you, I seem to remember having a brief crush on 'manly' baldie Bill Smugs at around the same age. Maybe it's an initial hormone surge or something. A year later I'd have told him to fuck off with his 'let's protect the girls' stuff, and his preference for clingy, wet Lucy-Ann over feisty, brother-bashing Dinah.

I really like it. The only downside for me is that it reminds me of Julian the mansplaining arse from the Famous Five books.

I think it's a bit posh sounding but that doesn't necessarily have to be a deal breaker. The main reference for me is Julian Lennon and I do like his music so I think I like rather than dislike it, it's just not one I'eve ever really thought about much.

Mumchance I love your take on Julian K - I re-read one of those books in a B&B in adulthood when there was nothing else available, and couldn't stand the way were were being blatantly told (not shown) how admirable he was on nearly every page. Nice fallible Dick was always my favourite!

Not my cup of tea, sorry. It does tick the boxes though, just not my personal style. If it helps I don't know any Julians at all.

I like it. I know of a Julian (and yes he's musical ).

Not a fan of the famous Julians but it does also remind me of the Famous Five (not sure if that's a good thing or not!)

I remember another Julian so three in total.

1/. Tall, good looking World Champion a few times (won't say at what - could out myself)

2/. Stunningly handsome, adventurer big & broad entrepreneur.

3/- Down to earth & ruggedly good looking.

Go for it I say!

Absolutely not. Julian is pronounced JOOLian with the emphasis on Jool. Only difference is that in German it is YOOLian.

Julianne is a completely different name and is pronounced JulieANNE or in German YuliAH-neh. Hope that explains it

I love it. It's my dad's name and would love Julian or Julius if I had a boy next time around or Juliette if I had a girl.

I love Julian as a girl's name after the batshit but interesting Julian of Norwich, but unfairly the same name on a boy makes me think of Julian 'Pompous, Middle-Aged and a Thorough Sexist Snob at Twelve' Kirrin in the Famous Five. (Agree entirely that he grew up into a UKIP local councillor and George and co have emigrated to avoid him...) Agree that Julius is nicer for a boy.
