What do you think of the name Richard- deadly dull or due for a come back?

Richard is a good solid name.

Much more teaseworthy is William with Willy! Yet people still name their boys William Confused.

Richard is a classic name with plenty of variations and nicknames, so it's very adaptable. I like it a lot.

For those who always bring up Dick (so to speak), that is a very old-fashioned nn for Richard, and I've rarely encountered it in anyone born after about 1950.

I like it a lot, it was on my shortlist for DS1 but not for DS2, as DS1's actual name begins with R too.

I wouldn't worry about Dick. Younger Richards tend to get called Rich if they get called anything at all for short, in the same way that Will, Rob and Ed sound younger than Bill, Bob and Ted.

DH's name. He goes by Rich - the only person allowed to call him Dick was his mum, nobody else has ever used that when he's introduced himself so I wouldn't worry about that. I like it.

I like it. It's a traditional and royal name, due a comeback IMO.

Obviously Dick as nickname is a no-no, but I doubt many of the younger generation will think of it anyway (the name isn't Ditchard after all...) but Rich and Ricky are both fine.

It would be unusual in a good way.

My dh is Richard. I really like it. He's Richie to his uni mates but mostly just Richard!

Lovely name. There was a Richard at toddler group when ds was small - he was the cutest little boy with curly black hair and almost black eyes. I'll always associate the name with him.

Rich and Richie are fine but Richard to me is a bit, 60 something married to Jan, drives a Rover and thinks Nigel Farage should be given a knighthood. But I recently met a baby Clive (!) and Richard is way better than that.

I know a 13 year old named Richard, nn Ricky. Lovely kid, nice name. Go for it!

I like, makes me think of the film in the 90's Ritchie Rich. Its a good name with a lot of history don't worry about the Dick Nn potential no child would think of that without parents input, plus I do think think it's that bad (think Dick Van Dyke) he didn't do so bad........ Grin
