Alice, Emilia or Beatrice.

I'm pregnant with baby no.4 (3rd girl) and can't decide between the above 3 names...

Alice - I really like but the 1st letter is the same as the 1st letter as one of my other daughters which isn't ideal, IMO. Also no decent nns...

Emilia - I love and also love Emi/Emmy but I dislike Amelia (irrational I know). I like Emily but know quite a few and I don't like it enough...

Beatrice - I love and also love Bea/Bebe but it's a little bit more unusual/old-fashioned than my other dcs names...I know it's "in" at the moment but the other 3 are classics/more popular..

Hi, I just gave birth to a beautiful girl and we can’t decide on a name. We are choosing between Alice an Ava. We have a boy named Hudson at home. Last name starts with A. Please vote!

Your baby is lovely, congratulations but maybe make your own thread as you are currently on someone else’s x

Beatrice - nn Bea. Gorgeous! I don’t think it will date at all and seems elegant and traditional to me perhaps because of HRH Princess Beatrice x

caitlinrose · 14/11/2022 18:42

I love Alice. It doesn't need a nickname.

I dislike Emilia. It's just so popular and then there are all of the Amelias as well.

I like Beatrice a lot. DH and I thought about both Beatrix and Beatrice for quite some time. We went back and forth but right now Beatrix is on our list because it sounds more fashionable and young to us.

I am 45 and had a Beatrice in my class at primary school then there is Beatrice York and my DD(14)'s new best friend is Bea (Beatrice) so I don't think it is especially now. I think it's lovely, all of the above seem to be really nice people too.

AnyaMoondial · 13/06/2021 15:24

I love Beatrice and the nn Bea.

partyatthepalace · 13/06/2021 12:26

Emily or Emmeline?

Although if you aren’t especially close and she’s always called Millie you don’t need to ask. You could just announce it as ‘Emilia - Emmy to us!’ They’d have to be nut jobs to be offended by that.

I like Beatrice also and I think is is as much a classic/no more old fashioned than Alice and Emilia

Florence3110 · 13/06/2021 12:17

I love Beatrice

MargaretFraggle · 13/06/2021 12:03

I would go with Alice or Beatrice. Emilia is lovely but seems too confusing with an Amelia in the family. I would not want to be called Emmie or Mia if my name was Emilia by the way. Em, maybe, but that or Emilia. I would not worry about your other child having a name starting with A. It's an unnecessary thing to worry about IMO!

GlencoraP · 13/06/2021 12:02

Love Beatrice

vinoandbrie · 13/06/2021 11:59

Beatrice ❤️

AliceBeatrice · 13/06/2021 11:58

My dad named me Alice Beatrice. I think both have a nice ring when you put them together and you have two options if you're worried about confusing names.

Almondbrew · 06/06/2017 10:47

I love Emilia!
nn
Emmie
Ems
Mia
Mila

SerfTerf · 06/06/2017 10:47

Elise as a blend between Alice and Emilia? It eliminates the 'A' initial problem, the risk of 'Millie' creeping in as a NN and the Amelia issue.

Almondbrew · 06/06/2017 10:47

Actually, I agree don't speak with her. Choose the name you love the most. After all, how much time is she going to spend with her much older cousin. Go for it!! Thanks

Rockaby · 06/06/2017 10:35

How about Emmeline?

I find Emelia and Amelia very similar and although they're pretty names, they're both so well used. The similarity between cousins' names would bother me less than the well used thing, but that's just me.

Montsti · 06/06/2017 10:31

Thanks for the feedback. This is the reason why I didn't use Emilia for my other 2 DDs (who are younger than their cousin)...I didn't mention it to my sil though....I'd rather not speak to her about it as we're not close and she'll tell everyone and I don't like announcing the name until the birth...maybe I could say I'm struggling with names - I love Emilia but obviously can't use it due to her daughters name etc...and she what her reaction is....

I decided on Beatrice when I found out I was having a girl due to the issue with Emilia but am having a wobble now!

Unfortunately not keen on Emma - it's a perfectly nice name but just seems a bit plain (and short) to me...

I prefer Emilia however I'd check with your db and his wife if they mind you using Emilia do make sure it doesn't cause any problems.

CountryCaterpillar · 06/06/2017 10:22

I wouldn't have Emilia and Amelia in the same close family as they sound the same!

I love Beatrice and nearly chose it. I prefer Emma to Emilia though.

Montsti · 06/06/2017 10:18

Thanks for the comments😊.

Alice is now off the list as I really don't want 2 daughters with the same initial.

So it's between Emilia & Beatrice.

Spanner in the works which I forgot to add in my original post - baby brain...my 7 year old niece (DH's sisters daughter) is called Amelia nn. Millie. She is NEVER referred to as Amelia though... but it really is just on her BC and passport...however I suppose she might decide to call herself by her full name when she's older...

We live 20 mins from her but are not close so don't see her very often at all...she won't go to the same school as my daughter...we do spend Christmas/family occasions etc..with them though...

I don't like the nn. Millie and would refer to Emilia either as her full name or Emmy which I love...

I love Beatrice nn.Bea too...

Thoughts - Emilia or Beatrice?

I know an Emilia. She is known as Emmie mostly, sometimes Em. I like that she's got the option of being Emily when she's older

Castlelough · 02/06/2017 09:16

Alice is my favourite of the three and I think Ali is quite nice for a nn. I would have Alice on my list for a future dc3 and I have an Ava dd2 so I understand where you are coming from with the same initial letter. However they won't live under the same roof for most of their lives so I wouldn't let postal mix-ups be a concern.

Sophronia · 02/06/2017 00:34

Beatrice

SuperBeagle · 01/06/2017 23:17

I have an Emilia, so that's my favourite. People do assume it's spelt Amelia, but that tends not to happen when you nickname them Emmy as opposed to Millie (much more common for Amelia).

I like Alice too, but don't like Beatrice.
