Austin - Help.

Thought on the name Austin.

I know a couple of Austins - one OK, one not OK. It is a variation on Augustine, which could be abbreviated to Gus.

Car make primarily but nice name, I've met an adult one.

I think it's a very British, old man name - like Neville, or Victor.

I'd think you were 'being American' if you gave it to a girl.

Limer - I'm an Austen, and when I was young there was a car called an Austin Princess, which gave my mates endless fun. But most of the time I was just called Oz or Ozzy.

My friend has an Austin. I like it. She shortens it to Ozzy which is cute.

I like it. I know a five year old Austin who is adorable and it suits him lots.

I also know a 30odd year old Austin but he usually goes by Oz instead.

My dad used to work 'up the Austin' even when it became Rover. To me it's always going to be a car make.

Also depends where you live.

Midlands 'Oz-tin'
Posh 'Orze-ten' etc

As soon as we both agreed we liked the name, I thought that everyone would think it was very 'American', which I understand why. But I think it's cool.

Not heard that name suggested for a baby before. Certainly none in my area. Like it. U go for it. Good strong name. Good young and older name.

I commented on this name on another thread. Some people think it's trendy and American but it's an 'old man chic' name in Ireland. I like it.

Thanks everyone! Feel better knowing that everyone agrees and seems to think it's a good name. Made me happier.

I don't know any Austin's - there are none in my area, which I think has made me like it more. It's not too unusual but everyone knows the name which is good.

It's been so hard trying to find the perfect name!

I love Austin! All the grown up Austins I know are successful too, it strikes me as a strong confident name. It's not common where I live.

Oh I love Austin and really really wanted it for DS1 but DH was unsure so we went a different way (which is weird now cos obvs DS1 just is his name and I can't imagine him as an Austin!!)

Awesome name. I also like Dustin.
