Having a major wobble, please be kind....

Hi so I have a new son (2 weeks old) who is just perfect, we have named him Nicholas Adam. I have 2 older stepsons called Daniel and Matthew, DH and I have a son called Alexander and now baby Nicholas. I loved the name all of my pregnancy until I was up with insomnia and read about teasing potential of the name on mumsnet... . I posted about this before and in the end felt loved the name enough to ignore. But lately in the height of hormonal baby blues I'm doubting the choice again. He's just perfect and I want an equally perfect name! We have told everyone his name already..... I suppose I'm looking for a bit of hand holding, positive opinions on our choice of name and reassurance that a lot of how I'm feeling is due to crazy hormones rather than rational thought! Be kind please....!!

I liked Nicholas but couldn't get Knickerless out of my head which I assume is what you're referring to. Once he gets to school I'm sure he'll be called Nick or Nicky anyway so I wouldn't worry about it. It's a solid name 👍

Nicholas is quite a common name in my generation, and in my experience it's very rare for it not to be shortened to Nick or Nicky. None of the Nicholases I have known have been subjected to excessive teasing over their name. So if it's the possible "knickers" jokes that concern you, I wouldn't worry. They are usually limited to

Knock knock
Who's there?
Nicholas
Nicholas who?
Nicholas Girlsshouldn'tclimbtrees Grin

And it doesn't really matter. Kids will always find something to make fun of if they want to, if it's not a name it'll be something else.

It's a lovely name, all four names go well together, strong and traditional but not overly popular at the moment

I don't think it's the name actually - I think you are just worried about your new perfect gorgeous boy being picked on!! Totally normal to feel so protective op!! But his name is as perfect as he is so try not to worry!!

Congrats on your new arrival! Great name and goes really well with the others. Lots of nice nickname potential too if you decide you don't want to use the full name day to day in the future. I think it is totally normal to have a wobble around this stage as you're still not used to introducing him.

Its a great name. Don't change it!

My son has a name that could very easily switch to a name for teasing yet he has never been teased. My name is as simple and straightforward as you can get, think Jane or Ann, yet I was teased all through school with convoluted made up names tenuously linked to my name.

I might be missing something obvious but I'm really not seeing any teasing potential with the name Nicholas Adam.

I can't think how it would lead to teasing either & think it is a lovely name.

I hope it's helpful to you if I say that I can't see any teasing potential with those names / that combination. Two sensible names that people should be able to pronounce - and spell - with no problems. I like it!

I think it's a very nice name! I didn't see your other thread and cannot think how Nicholas would lead to teasing.
