Having a major wobble, please be kind....

Hi so I have a new son (2 weeks old) who is just perfect, we have named him Nicholas Adam. I have 2 older stepsons called Daniel and Matthew, DH and I have a son called Alexander and now baby Nicholas. I loved the name all of my pregnancy until I was up with insomnia and read about teasing potential of the name on mumsnet... . I posted about this before and in the end felt loved the name enough to ignore. But lately in the height of hormonal baby blues I'm doubting the choice again. He's just perfect and I want an equally perfect name! We have told everyone his name already..... I suppose I'm looking for a bit of hand holding, positive opinions on our choice of name and reassurance that a lot of how I'm feeling is due to crazy hormones rather than rational thought! Be kind please....!!

I went to school with a Nicholas who was always Nicholas, never Nick. He was teased (in a light hearted way) about being posh because his accent was posher than most but never about his name and he always had lots of friends.

So it's Dan, Alex, Matt and Nick.
All fabulous, classic but still modern names.
Ignore the wobbles, it's great!

Never ever would associate the name Nicholas with teasing and like others have said it goes so beautifully with your other children. I knew lots of Nicholas' at school, I think 100% of them were called Nick, and I never heard of any of them being teased.
Lets face it children will find anything to tease others about, so if not a name it will be something else!

Nicholas is a lovely name and goes beautifully with his brothers' names. Nicholas Adam is particularly lovely - two underused classic, great names.

We have a Nicholas in the family, as an adult he's mainly called Nick - never been teased about his name.

There were four Nicholas's in my class at school (I'm early 40s) three were Nicks, one was a Nicky. All the girls thought Nicky was quite a sexy nickname and he was really popular.

I don't ever remember them being teased about their name. They were all popular, nice guys. I on the other hand was given the middle name Margaret and was bullied endlessly because of my "awful old fashioned granny name" so you really can't predict what will happen

You can tease almost any name.

One of the most popular girls names:

Knock knock

Isabell
Isabell who?
Is a bell ringing?

I wouldn't worry too much

Nicholas is a lovely name, as you say OP it's an underused classic. I think it's a great choice & goes really well with your other boys' names.

It's a great name, the only thing I can think of is that it sounds like Nicola Adams, the boxer. She's lovely! You don't really use middle names on a day to day basis and I doubt his peers will have heard of her.

I think it's fabulous. Was in contention for my son until we decided it wasn't right with our surname (DS1 is Adam though!).

Great international name for a child with an exciting future!

I have a DSS called that and his mates shorten it to Nick, in the family it's Nico (Nick-o). I think it's nice. Traditional yet funky. Try not to worry

It's a lovely name!! Kids will make nasty or rude nicknames whatever they are so don't worry it's just kids

Thanks everyone, I feel much better, think I am just being ultra protective of him and I know I'm definitely feeling really hormonal just now...want the fog to clear! I do love the name, think it's an underused classic. I was just obsessing about the potential teasing as above, in my moments of clarity I can see it's daft and kids will find something to tease other kids about if they really want to. When I'm feeling the hormonal crash I just can't see past it...irrational I know. So thanks everyone for your kind words, he is wonderful x

I have a Nicholas. He has always been known as Nick from starting school. He hasn't been teased about his name. He is 22 now.

Some folk find fault with any and every name going, you may feel sensitive at present but it'll get easier shrugging off any adverse comments should they arise.

I love it op! My dbro's name is nicholas and I've always liked it. He's never been teased about his name and its only ever been shortened to nicky or nick. Congrats on your gorgeous little boy!
