Macie or Macy?

Just saw someone say that they have a Macy and it made me remember how much I love this name! Macie is the most common spelling (according to the database) but isn't Macy the original? Which spelling would you go for?

@hazeydays14 I think we may share the same name :). Life time of saying spelt with an 'ie' and never met another in real life but I really don't like how the name looks with a 'y' so I'm happy with the 'ie'!

However, in this case I would probably go with Macy with a 'y'- it looks a bit wrong as Macie and could be confused with Maisie

I have only ever taught girls with than name with the spelling Maeci.

YY to this^^ though. The phrase "Maccy Ds" makes my skin crawl and it doesn't make sense.

Maisie might be more traditional, but that doesn't mean I have to like it more. I was careful to say "imo" in my post as, quite obviously, I don't expect everyone to share my taste.

Yes, but Maisie is a traditional first name, and Macy is a traditional surname. One person's 'cooler' is another person's surname.

OP NavyandWhite was being mildly catty about your choice of name, whether it be Macy or Macie. Bit odd to say 'if you like it' when you clearly do and are actually talking about the spelling choices.

I have no idea what Macy D is.

I'd say Macy.

What is Macy Ds? If you mean McDonald's, that is surely Maccy Ds (otherwise it would be pronounced May-cee not Mack-ee)? Though since it is McDonald's, not MacDonald's, Maccy D's is, though frequently used, a bit of a stretch anyway.

But back to the name. Macy's is the name of a very well-known US department store so that's what I think of. Maisie is a nicer similar name.

If you were going to use it, I think Macy is much better than Macie as the latter looks like a spelling mistake.
