Is this acceptable?

Okay, I'm going to change names here but please imagine a very similar situation.

My name is Christina but almost everyone day to day calls me Tina. I absolutely love a baby girl name and nothing else really interests me. The only problem is... it's Nina.

Is this acceptable? I can't decide whether people will people think I'm mad rhyming my name with my daughter's? Or, if no one uses mother and daughter's name together so it doesn't matter? Help!

I wouldn't worry about it but fyi I have a longish traditional name, the ending of which is "ina" and my close family and some of my friends have always called me nina as a nickname. Could that be an option? I personally like having multiple names for different parts of my life.

Why not?

Sons are often named after their fathers.

It's fine imo :)

I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Your daughter will be an individual. She will have a life of her own. Her name will be hers, and it won't be spoken with yours every time.

Many people call their children after themselves, so I personally would.
Yes, you'll have similar names, but different initials. If you love the name, use it.

PotteringAlong · 24/05/2017 10:12

No. You can't call your daughter Nina if you're Tina. Well, you can but it sounds odd.

Heratnumber7 · 24/05/2017 10:07

I know a Gemma who has a daughter Emma. Weird.

17caterpillars1mouse · 24/05/2017 10:05

People do do it. I know a Kelly who has an Ellie. I do find it a bit weird though and wouldn't do it myself

Purpledaffodils · 24/05/2017 09:04

It's not something I would do personally but plenty do. If it's definitely the name for you then go for it.

BertrandRussell · 24/05/2017 08:47

People will comment and be amused. And they'll forget which of you is which. You are a bit of a unit with your child for the first few years in a "Are Tina and Nina coming?" sort of way, so be prepared.....

Hamsolo · 24/05/2017 08:46

I wouldn't, personally, because I'd dislike people commenting on it constantly, as I think they would.

Rockaby · 24/05/2017 08:45

Honestly? No, I wouldn't do this. But then I dislike the name Nina, so possibly that is colouring my view a little.

KindleBueno · 24/05/2017 08:45

If you want it go for it x
