Thoughts on Dixie

Hi ladies. I've lurked for ages but now I'm finally pregnant have decided to join!

I've a while to go, but dreamt around 5 months ago (before I was even pregnant) of the name Dixie for a girl and havent been able to shake it since.

My partner likes it too but I'm not sure if it's just the fact I dreamed of it taking over for me. Also toying with Daisy.

Honest thoughts please? Surname is Dark if that helps!!

I know someone called Dixie, so I'm used to it - and actually quite like it. But it always makes me think of that "I wish I was in the land of Cotton", US Confederate Civil War song.

Congratulations! I mean this with complete good intentions, but Dixie Dark sound like a porn star name. I prefer Daisy.

There's a Dixie in DD's class, she's a lovely kid and no-one teases her about her name. It really suits her too.

I don't mind Dixie, but I think it's awful with the surname Dark.

It sounds porney.

Daisy is much better.

How could anyone inflict Dotty / Dottie on a child? It's the same as calling them Dippy or Dafty.

Dixie is cute on a two, three or.four year old, but not on a tween or.teen.when.kids can be cruel and it will be shortened to Dix or Dick(s)! Daisy, Dottie, Delilah and Deanna are all better alternative D names.IMO

Agree with Bad about the longer names: I think three syllables also works, as in

Susannah Dark
Fiona Dark
Delilah Dark if you definitely want a D name!

Thank you all for your responses! I think you're all right. I do love the name but I don't want to saddle a child with a name that'll be cause for teasing as they grow up.

Dark is a difficult surname to match a D name with Grin... Donnie Dark is like the movie and Donald Dark is like the cartoon!

I also like Penny, Piper and Effie but a new name seems to pop in to my head every 5 minutes at the moment!

What about Beatrix and shorten it to Trixie?
Daisy Dark makes me think of Daisy Duck, Donald's girlfriend.
Also might inspire the nickname 'double D' and with Dixie as the first name I just think it's a double whammy of potential innuendos.

Dixie has beer, shit country band and American Civil War connotations.

I wouldn't use it. Love Daisy though.

I think a 4 syllable name sounds very elegant with Dark. Eg,
Elizabeth Dark
Hermione Dark
Arabella Dark
Amelia Dark
