Zora?

DD is due soon, and I just wanted to gather the general consensus on the name Zora (after Zora Neale Hurston - Their Eyes Were Watching God).
The dh and I love it, but the other family members, namely parents, don't seem too thrilled. I am also a little afraid it is too similar to Zara or that it might come across a bit techy, if that makes any sense.
Last name starts with a P and is also a boys name and green holiday.

I love it, very simple and unusual and a great namesake. And although unusual it passes the 'OK to be screamed across a crowded playground/park/supermarket aisle'test.

Wtf is this zoflora that I see mentioned on MN so much?!

I like Zora. I'm a Russian speaker and it means "dawn" - lovely. It also has a strong, pretty sound and ZNH is a great namesake.

If you don't mind people mistaking it for more well-known Zara from time to time, then go for it!

I'm in the minority as I live it. I was at school with a Bosnian Zuhra which is pronounced very similary

Zara is a great name, Zora not so much.

Never heard of it and don't like it sorry.

The Zara thread is very positive.

YY to Zohra spelling!

katonic · 14/05/2017 06:58

I teach a Zohra, think that spelling looks a bit more elegant perhaps? Less zoflora!

heateallthebuns · 14/05/2017 06:51

I'm not keen either. It sounds like mis pronounced/spelled Zara. Child will have to correct people every day.

Oysterbabe · 14/05/2017 06:47

I really don't like it. I get that it's a real name but it sounds made up.

spacecowboy99 · 14/05/2017 06:47

First thought here also Zoflora. Might mostly be a mumsnet thing though and not something everyone would think IRL.

Gallavich · 14/05/2017 06:32

I read zoflora at first glance

AvengingGerbil · 14/05/2017 06:29

Sister of Zorro

SummerRayne17 · 14/05/2017 06:28

Or a cleaning pregnant product....sorry!

SuperBeagle · 14/05/2017 06:27

It sounds like a drug to me, honestly.
