Makes me think of Shelley Long. Not a bad thing.

ChambourcyHippopotamousse · 12/05/2017 23:56

PortableVirgin 😂

Dolwar · 12/05/2017 23:38

They're both awful sorry.

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 12/05/2017 15:23

Shelley is a great name, but only on a tortoise. On a human being it's not so good, unless preceded by Percy Bysshe, or Mary, if a girl.

CricketRuntAndRashers · 12/05/2017 15:00

Yes, Michelle nn Chelly/Shay/Shelley etc.... That's much nicer than Chelly or Shelley imo.

Mrsknackered · 12/05/2017 14:49

Will the real Slim Chelleydy please stand up?

HA. Brill.

Newtssuitcase · 12/05/2017 09:41

michelle will always be shortened to:

shell

shelley/shelly (if you put the extra e in she will always have to remind people of the second e)

meesh (yuck)

It will also be pronounced "Mee shell" by people in certain areas

user18349332 · 12/05/2017 09:35

Yes, that is a good idea. Keeps many options open.

Only1scoop · 12/05/2017 09:35

So why start another one?Confused

Elphaba99 · 12/05/2017 09:34

Why don't you use Michelle and dd can shorten it to whatever she chooses?

user18349332 · 12/05/2017 09:32

Don't be sorry posters for not liking the names. I'm not that sensitive...glad to take any and all opinions on board.

GoodDayToYou · 12/05/2017 09:31

They're both dreadful. Sorry.

3luckystars · 12/05/2017 09:28

What a lovely thread this turned out to be! I thought it would be just the same, thats not a name, and then Johnny Logan appeared.

Hold me now!

Chelly or Shelley?
RuncibleSp00n · 12/05/2017 09:28

They're all not to my taste at all I'm afraid.

user18349332 · 12/05/2017 09:27

Ah I was referring to pp poster saying their name was Shelley and always having to explain it.

I knew a Shelley once at work and I don't remember any weird comments about her name

There wouldn't be, because she didn't spell it Chelly!

Newtssuitcase · 12/05/2017 09:23

Most Shelleys I know are really Michelles (lots around when I was at school). Its a common nickname for Michelle and so you could have both.

ExcuseMeButImHavingACrisis · 12/05/2017 09:22

Neither
Shelley is outdated and Chelley is just made up and not even nice -sorry!

Newtssuitcase · 12/05/2017 09:21

Shelley does rhyme with jelly. It most definitely does and I'm Confused

PollytheDolly · 12/05/2017 09:21

I don't think you're ready for this chelly

Post of the day Grin

PortableVirgin · 12/05/2017 09:19

Leaving aside the 'Chelly pronounced 'Shay' thing, I think that unless it's obvious 'Chelly' is a nickname for Michelle, people are likely to pronounce it with the 'Ch' sound from the beginning of 'chop' or 'cheese', rather than 'champagne'.

For Irish people, this is what 'Shay' calls up - Shay Healey, who wrote Johnny Logan's doleful Eurovision-winning song 'What's Another Year?' at some point in the 80s. He's called after his dad, Seamus.

Chelly or Shelley?
blueskyinmarch · 12/05/2017 09:19

Shelley as a name is fine. Maybe a wee bit outdated now but fine. Chelley on the other hand...just no.

user18349332 · 12/05/2017 09:09

Michelle is pretty. I do like that. I knew a Shelley once at work and I don't remember any weird comments about her name. Michelle might be safest though.

MiniAlphaBravo · 12/05/2017 09:04

Both pretty bad but Chelly is not a name or even a word so don't use that. Shelly is better or Michelle is ok also.

WowserBowser · 12/05/2017 08:59
