"Hi, am I speaking with Chelly Smith?"
"Shay Smith"
"Sorry?"
"SHAY Smith"
"Oh...my apologies, we have it on our system as Chelly! So it's S.h.a.y?"
"No, C.h.e.l.l.y!"
"Sorry? Did you not just say your name was Shay??"
"Yes, it is..."

HANGS UP

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 12/05/2017 01:54

Like Shay Carl the guy who cheated on his wife on Twitter?

GoingArseforTit · 12/05/2017 00:56

*Pronounced Shay as a middle name
*
Ahahhahaha honking laughing here Grin

Lunar1 · 12/05/2017 00:55

My name is a perfectly legitimate spelling of my name. It doesn't mean my parents weren't fucking idiots for choosing it.

CalmItKermitt · 12/05/2017 00:37

Utterly ridiculous 🙄

myoriginal3 · 12/05/2017 00:34

Che sera sera is prounounced 'Whatever will be will be'.

Nods.

Bejazzled · 12/05/2017 00:27

You could pronounce it 'preetenshus' as well

PotahtoPotayto · 12/05/2017 00:25

Thank you my fellow MNetters for the laugh. 😂😂😂

Bejazzled · 12/05/2017 00:12

Lol lol
That is all

myshinynewusername · 12/05/2017 00:05

I would pronounce it with the ch sound like the ch sound in Charlotte.

myshinynewusername · 12/05/2017 00:03

You should spell it Gertrude but pronounced Shay.

SuperBeagle · 12/05/2017 00:02

Sorry, but that is definitely not an Australian name.

I'm Australian. I would pronounce that as it appears: Chelly, with the ch sound being the same as the ch sound in Charles.

BackforGood · 11/05/2017 23:34

I suppose you could go for "Pronounced-Shay" as a middle name?

Grin crying here.

3luckystars · 11/05/2017 22:46

Shay is a nice name.

But Emme is pronounced Emmie.

CrazedZombie · 11/05/2017 22:32

This is on a par with Elle pronounced Ellie. 😂

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/05/2017 22:21

If you want to call, your child a name that sounds like Shay, I would spell it Shay - of all the ways you might be able to spell it (or something like it), this is the clearest and most sensible.

Incidentally, chai is not pronounced shay - it is pronounced wih the ch sound from chip, and the ai pronounced as eye so you get ch-eye.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 11/05/2017 22:16

Why would anyone want to do this to a child. Seriously, no, never, ever.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 11/05/2017 22:13

While I do find that interesting I still wouldn't do it to a child.

blueskyinmarch · 11/05/2017 22:11

I would pronounce Chelly with a hard ch (like the start of change or cello) so Ch-elly to rhyme with Jelly.

rupert23 · 11/05/2017 22:11

you will be correcting people everyday and quoting the Navajo spanish thing will be very boring. Why not pick a name that can be easily pronounced or spell it shay if that is what you like.

user18349332 · 11/05/2017 22:10

Chelly means canyon & the pronunciation is a mix of Navajo & Spanish

Thanks, Empress that was really helpful and illuminating.

I could produce the article every time Wink.
