Hi really love these two names but quite torn between the two. Can I have your opinions please. Much appreciated .

Maggie is a nickname or short form, so I would give her a proper full name like Margaret, Magdalene or one of their variations.

She can then be Maggie if it suits her, but there are various other options too, as well as the full name itself.

I associate Maggie with Maggie Simpson but she's a nice character.

MrsMarigold · 09/05/2017 10:25

Maggie but it depends on the girl.

flibberdy · 09/05/2017 10:21

I love Seren.
For the Pp who said there might be a pronunciation problem, how is it meant to be said?
I would say
Ser- like the beginning of Sarah ? Is that right??

QuietNameChange · 09/05/2017 10:18

Margeret nn Maggie is really lovely, imo.

If there are too many Serens... What about Serena?

Firewall · 09/05/2017 09:59

Seren is really nice. Not keen on Maggie.

bridgetreilly · 09/05/2017 09:57

Maggie is lovely.

SuperBeagle · 09/05/2017 09:39

I like Maggie, but prefer it as a nickname for Margaret or another Mag name (Magdalena?)

Seren is nice also.

Bonbons123 · 09/05/2017 09:22

Thanks for your replies...exactly why I need your help....im afraid the older generation will think negative about maggie. And I live in wales and I am welsh so I'm afraid there will be too many serens!!!! I'm so stuck...only 5 weeks to go!!

I live in Wales so know plenty of Serens, if you're not in Wales it'll be more unusual.

LarrytheCucumber · 09/05/2017 09:13

Some people still associate Maggie with Mrs Thatcher, which could be negative or positive according to your point of view.

Rockaby · 09/05/2017 09:10

Maggie Smile

Moresaltedcaramel · 09/05/2017 09:06

I mean negative associations for me.

Moresaltedcaramel · 09/05/2017 09:05

Seren is very pretty, but it is annoying when it's mispronounced, and I've heard a few odd pronunciations.
I'm afraid it's my age, but Maggie will always have overwhelming negative associations.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2017 09:02

There's a Maggie and a seren in ds's class, plus we know of another seren (it means star in Welsh?? I think? )

I prefer Maggie, I agree it's a strong name.

LiquoriceWheel · 09/05/2017 09:00

I like both names but I think they have two different images. For example, Maggie seems lively and engaging. Whereas Seren seems more mystical and restrained.

Sorry if that sounds silly BlushGrin

Mothervulva · 09/05/2017 08:13

Maggie, but short for Margaret. Seren is nice too although I'd never heard of it before MN. I know three little Maggies and no Serens if that helps.

Fridgedooropen · 09/05/2017 08:11

Both are lovely, but I absolutely love Maggie. Would be one of my main contenders for a daughter. A strong woman's name.
