Etta or Frances

So I have 4 weeks left and it's getting a bit of a worry that we have no name.
It changes constantly but these two names have stuck on every list and keep coming back up so I'm guessing these are the two I must love.
Husband says I'm over thinking and just need to pick! He loves both.

Thoughts?
Etta? On its own or as a nn please suggest longer names
Frances - love the classic feel and it's timeless.

My name ends with etta and it doesn't feel like a good name on it's own at all to me. Also makes me think about eating (I 'et' a cake).

I much prefer names that give choice, especially as my childhood nick name was very similar to etta (like Betta for Elisabetta) and I don't use it at all any more. So I'd chose a longer form personally.

My name (which I love) is on this list, perhaps one works for you OP?

I like both, though slightly prefer Frances. Perhaps because it makes me think of badgers.

I love Etta.

JessicaEccles · 05/05/2017 15:06

Etta is lovely. Original and classy. And I love Etta James.

dillytilly · 05/05/2017 02:00

Frances is beautiful and traditional, can imagine on both a child and a woman!

Etta is still pretty though ! X

AutumnalLeaves38 · 04/05/2017 23:23

Etta's really lovely, OP. Smile

And such a legendary namesake...hope you don't mind me posting this short clip, in honour of your soon-to-be-arriving DD.

Good luck for her delivery! Flowers

Thanks everyone. Etta is my favourite and I'm glad it is so well received. That's decided.
Elizabeth is my middle name of choice. That's why I loved Elisabetta and I could have had Frances as a middle name.
I will go with Etta Elizabeth. Smile
My son's middle name is Francis so I clearly love the name but maybe it would have caused problems with a boy and girl having Frances and Francis in both names. Although it doesn't bother me!!!

Do you have a middle name picked out? I like both. Why not Etta Frances?

MamOfTwo · 04/05/2017 17:44

I love Etta!

With Frances, will it bother you if people pronounce it a different way to you due to their accent? I would pronounce it Frances with a short 'a' but down South it would be Fraances (long a) iyswim. Kind of like Tanya/Tarnya. Unless she becomes Frannie then it's not a problem!

putputput · 04/05/2017 17:36

Just Etta, no need for a longer name. Utterly perfect name.

Mothervulva · 04/05/2017 17:33

Rosetta nice too!

bigredboat · 04/05/2017 17:16

Mil is Rosetta known as Etta and her middle name is Frances!

Mothervulva · 04/05/2017 17:14

Etta is lovely.
Violetta?
Greta is cool actually.

JanuaryJuniper · 04/05/2017 17:12

mum2be2boys · 04/05/2017 17:08

Love the name Etta!

Frances is nice but I prefer Francesca.

FluffyBathTowel · 04/05/2017 17:06

Love Etta.

Mrsknackered · 04/05/2017 16:04

Etta! No longer name needed IMO. It's a great name. Really don't like Frances I've never met a nice one

MundayCakes85 · 04/05/2017 14:58

I have an Etta- this will be totally outing as we have never come across another! No longer full name, it works really well as a stand alone name.
(We're also big Etta James fans 😊)

Mummamayhem · 04/05/2017 14:19

Etta is amazing!

lockie1983 · 04/05/2017 14:15

I have a Francis (boy) and he would've been Frances had he been a girl.

I LOVE Etta. So much. Can't even tell you. PG at the moment but the name sounds like an instruction when said with our surname.

So I love both and am jealous you could use Etta and I can't !

NoSquirrels · 04/05/2017 14:03

Beautiful names both. Secretly wish I had an Etta.

(Big jazz standards fan, this may be why!)

Rockaby · 04/05/2017 14:00

Selfobsession

For a minute there I thought you meant spell Elisabetta with a capital B! Like ElisaBetta Grin.
