Has Alison had it's day?

Opinions on the name Alison?

Trying very hard to think of names with DH (6 weeks to go...) and we both quite like this name but don't know if it's too dated without having the 'old school cool' feel?

It's also the name of a close family member, and the middle name of another family member who passed away recently so would have some sentimental value.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't go Alison because my 50-something auntie is one - but I know a Scottish Alison my age (28) and also really warmed to the name during the tv programme The Affair, I like it.

Alison was a favourite of mine, for family reasons. I think it's lovely and if you like it go for it

It's my name too and I like it, either in full or Ali for short. I don't think it's dated at all - more of a timeless classic.

Or maybe that's wishful thinking....!

I disagree with Navy and do not think it's in the same group of names such as Paula or Diane.

I like the name Alison and don't think it is that dated, or if it is then it is being revived.

There is a popular TV show aimed at the younger generation called Pretty little Liars and one of the lead characters is called Alison and she is in her teens on the show.

Alison is a gorgeous name but it will be unusual in a bit of a dated way just now. I love it though. You could go fashion-forward with the middle name?

I always thought it was pretty and knew a few at school. Alice is lovely as well.

It feels like a 70s/80s name for me, which (in my mind) is recent enough to feel dated and not retro enough to be due a resurgence.

I only know one Alison, she's the same age as me - 28/29. It's uncommon now but I wouldn't say dated, and as others have said much better than ANOTHER Isla/Ava/Amelie.

I agree with Norks. It will be back with a vengeance in a generation. You could be a trendsetter!
(like the Outnumbered parents with their anachronistic Karen, who really would have been Chloe/Alice/Emily/Olivia/Grace or the other top 10 /5 in a class names!

Ah, the positivity has really helped! We've only got one other name for a girl so at least we may have 2 t choose from.

We don't actually know what we are having so now need to work on boys names...

My sister is alison, we call her Ali. She is 30 this year. I think it's nice.

I think Alison, Caroline, Christine, Helen, and so on are NEARLY due for a revival. Maybe in the next ten years or so.....:)
