Do you like the name Vada? Baby girl is due any day and we really like this name. Her brother is called Ira. Are Ira and Vada too similar or do they go well?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My girl is Vida and we have had a lot of lovely comments about it (as well as a few 'interesting name' type comments!) A few people have said it reminds them if My Girl too.
I am so glad we had the guts to go ahead with it, had a wobble when she was born but it suits her so perfectly and people just get used to it. I know I would have regretted it massively if chickened out!
Vada is lovely and goes well with Ira

pieceofpurplesky · 30/04/2017 18:36

Ira goes with ,,,
Paloma
Nicole
Elena (el-ay-na)

allegretto · 30/04/2017 16:06

Fyi it means "go away" in Italian...

GraceBlish · 30/04/2017 16:04

I know a man called Vada, didn't even know it was a girls name! 😕

StiffyByng · 30/04/2017 15:45

I thought Polari too, but doubt that will be a playground reference in 2020.

If you like it, OP, go for it. I think it's fine with Ira too.

Oysterbabe · 30/04/2017 15:43

Surely your DH wouldn't be able to resist saying "I am your father" in a Darth Vader voice.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 30/04/2017 14:04

I wouldn't. Star Wars is very popular.

What about Vela, Vasa, Velda, Velia, Valda, Vana, Varda or Vilma?

I personally love Ada (currently on of our top choices for DC2).

Sophronia · 30/04/2017 13:22

Love it.

AgingJuvenileBinkyHuckaback · 30/04/2017 12:01

I didn't realise it was pronounced vay-da, so immediately thought
"How bona to vada your dolly old eek!" Rather disappointed now.

But Vada pronounced Vay-da is nice I think and goes well with the other DC.

chipsnmayo · 30/04/2017 11:57

Thanks for pointing that out Nap. Never seen Vada as a name before, so excuse my ignorance OP.

SuperBeagle · 30/04/2017 11:36

I have never seen Star Wars (and I have seen My Girl) but it still makes me think of Darth Vada

n0ne · 30/04/2017 11:23

What about Vera? I want to like Vada but can't get past Darth, sorry

Mrsknackered · 30/04/2017 11:22

I didn't think Darth at all, I thought My Girl. I really like it OP

MitzyLeFrouf · 30/04/2017 11:00

The Star Wars gags would be constant, in childhood and beyond.

KoalaDownUnder · 30/04/2017 11:00

Is it pronounced vay-da or vah-da?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 30/04/2017 10:57

Children can find many ways to tease each other OP.
If you love Vada, then use it.
I quite like it, and it goes with your Sons name. 😄

anyoldname76 · 30/04/2017 10:57

not keen on vada as i automatically think darth, i dont like vita either. i went to school with a girl called vanda and i thought that it was a nice name

NegansLucille · 30/04/2017 10:52

Thank you all for your replies!
Yeah, the name Vada reminds us of My Girl too and that's one of the reasons why we like it so much. We only really like Vada, not keen on Vita or anything like that.
Really not sure. We haven't agreed on many other names, we love this one, but we wouldn't want her to get teased loads!

pieceofpurplesky · 30/04/2017 10:19

Another for Vita/Vida.
She would have a life time of Star Wars jokes

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/04/2017 10:18

*personally

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/04/2017 10:17

I prefer Vita/Vida purposely because she will get Darth Vader jokes.

MrsEricBana · 30/04/2017 10:17

I was going to say Vita too.

Jooni · 30/04/2017 10:16

Like it and it's great with Ira, which is a v cool choice btw!

NapQueen · 30/04/2017 10:13
