Girl's name suggestions, please

We just haven't found a name that "feels" right. We need to register DC no later than 3 days after his or her birth (not in the UK...), which is probably why it feels as if time is running away...

The name should sound nice to Scottish ears (we're moving to Scotland for work related reasons).

DD's name is Clarissa. Thank you very much in advance

(Btw, I namechanged for this because I wanted to mention DD's name)

Tbh, I think we'd use Adaline (I don't like the "ade" part of Adeline...)

Adeline is lovely and I think sounds better with Clarissa than the other a names although Fenella is also really nice

ooh, cool list! I love Claudia (can't use it). heidi is very orphan girl in the Swiss alps imo. And Quinn reminds me of "mewling quim", tbh Blush

I can't use Seraphina... But thanks :) So, Fenella doesn't make you think of vegetables? Because it's beautiful and I'm so glad this thread reminded me to put it on the list...

thanks. But with DD being Clarissa I'd feel as if I was taking away her name... Or just not really bothering to give DC2 his/her own name.

Is Fenella too much like fennel? Is Finella better?

And Maybe Marigold? depending on whether other users agree with this: but Marigold would be hard to pass off (I'm SCottish living in Scotland ?

As for Elspeth... Sorry, I have a horrible relative with that name. I know that it's objectively nice, but the association is too strong for me (that's the danger of having a really large family. Many lovely name will either be overused or are of the one auntie/uncle that's always nasty...)

Oops, true. But I do love "a" names, as this thread may have already kind of shown...

I have to google the pronunciation of Finola, I don't think it's too close, no :) I also know a lovely Fenella... Iona is really nice :)!

I don't feel we're Scottish "enough" for names like Eilidh, Ailsa etc...

But I do love Ailsa. Maybe that would be a good middle name...

Names to avoid (that are ghard to pronounce with a scottish accent or sound plain weird)

Pearl = Peril
Aurora = sounds like a dog chewing a toffee

Probably loads of others (e.g.Carl but that's a boys name :) )

I LOVE Marissa but we took it off the list because it sounds so much like Clarissa (imo...) it's too matchy, I think...

I'm not sure how to pronounce Ailsa (but I google it), but if it's pronounced like I think it is? Then that's really beautiful, thanks :)
