Girl's name suggestions, please

We just haven't found a name that "feels" right. We need to register DC no later than 3 days after his or her birth (not in the UK...), which is probably why it feels as if time is running away...

The name should sound nice to Scottish ears (we're moving to Scotland for work related reasons).

DD's name is Clarissa. Thank you very much in advance

(Btw, I namechanged for this because I wanted to mention DD's name)

I really like Clarissa and Iona, Clarissa and Helena, and Clarissa and Selena together.

Mafalda is quite a 'dramatic name'. Tragic princess describes it perfectly!

Aw, thanks. DH is preening that his suggestions (except for flipping Andromeda!!) have been well received...

I love Cressida (and Carlotta!) But they're probably too close to Clarissa.

I quite like Mafalda! But I wonder whether it is too much "tragic princess"?

pronouncing the "th" with Meredith is really difficult for me (I have to concentrate on it) and I don't think Merediff or Meredit sounds nice... But it would be a really good idea, I agree...

The current list is:

DH also suggested Selena. And Andromeda again... But Idk I like Selena. But Andromeda? Hmm

True.. Peonia may sound like... "something". Pneumonia? Better not. My family has a long history of lung related illnesses/disorders... Bad idea..

Fania... Don't you think she'll end up being callled "Fannie/Fanny"...?

You absolutely can't have Fania in Scotland. A Fanny is either a woman's personal region or a derogatory name used like idiot. As in "oi you, ya fanny, geez a bite of your sausage roll"

Glad Helena appeals.

Rather uncertain of Peonia as I've never ever come across it as a name. Obviously the very lovely Peony is referenced but it sounds like a mildly embarrassing medical complaint to me. As in ' She's got a mild peonia but the doctor says a little operation will put it right. Just a day case.'

I've mixed it up with a hernia haven't I? Sorry.

I'll offer Fania ( pronounced Fainia)

Yes, we shorten Clarissa. (Usually to Clary. But she has many other nns...)

Marla Glen is great, so if she was named after her? Pretty awesome imo.

I like Pippa/Pip but I'm not a fan of Philippa, sorry.

Viola is really pretty, met a Marla and she was a great kid ..wonder if thats who she was named after???

Millicent is great, same number of syllables as Clarissa and they sound really good together - do you shorten Clarissa? as Clarie and Millie also sound balanced

I like Francesca (not sure if I want to use it... But I did have a lovely uncle named Francesco... But I'm a bit wary about giving children first names of dead relatives...) and Millicent. I put them on the list, thanks :)

Marla reminds me of Marla Glen... Which is kind of cool, tbh... (I still love "Believer" and some other songs.) Hm... I have to think about that...

Panna Yes, I also like that Viola was used by Shakespeare, means most people have heard of the name. Plus, the instrument is lovely (and I can actually play it). And violets are lovely flowers...
