Violet is lovely.

user1471552178 · 25/04/2017 15:52

Love Darcey......just like the lovely ballerina Darcey Bussell.

Reminds me of grace, beauty and success.

ignore the haters!! Go with what you want

The thing with MN is that people can hide behind a screen and become a keyboard warrior....if we all the like the same it would be very boring.

I have a Darcey and get so many compliments and lots of people saying they've only ever met lovely little girls that are called Darcey too!

purplecoathanger · 24/04/2017 19:18

I love Darcy.

ilovechoc1987 · 24/04/2017 18:50

I'd be fine with one or two negative reactions, but when more then one person says that Darcey gets slated on MN regularly and how everyone 'hates' it, it makes it a little more then just someone's opinion.
Im pretty fussy with names, so I'd probably detest everyone's choices, but I wouldn't show such a strong hate for it on here, incase someone had chosen that name.

Pemba · 24/04/2017 18:34

Very sorry to hear about your daughter's problems ilove and wish you both all the best. However you are being far too sensitive. No one is being 'cruel' they just have different taste from you. For what it's worth I wouldn't choose Darcy myself but it is not horrible at all. And the dancer Darcy Bussell is a nice association - she's certainly very feminine!

I remember my own DD's name got slated on here once, I did feel a bit indignant and slightly upset, silly, but just an instinctive reaction I suppose. I just looked on other topics, and gave the baby names section a rest for a while. It's not personal, not about you and your baby.

ilovechoc1987 · 24/04/2017 18:22

Call me petty but my daughter who is a miracle baby, who has special needs is called Darcey and to hear people say things like 'that's an awful name' etc ..well it hurts to be honest.
Yes we can't all like the same names but there's no need to be so damn well cruel about it.

Puremince · 24/04/2017 18:17

I love Violet, not keen on Darcy.

Pemba · 24/04/2017 18:14

Don't be silly, ilovechoc. The child is not named yet, and the OP is just asking for opinions. You know, the whole point of this topic?

SuperFlyHigh · 24/04/2017 18:06

Viola I mean!

SuperFlyHigh · 24/04/2017 18:06

Viola is pretty and I know a polish one (she's Wioletta but goes by Violet).

SuperFlyHigh · 24/04/2017 18:05

Violet

ilovechoc1987 · 24/04/2017 18:05

Jesus people are so bloody rude!
Come on tell us your kids names..I'm dying to know how great they are 🙄

Pemba · 24/04/2017 17:57

Sorry I don't like either. Darcy just makes me think of Mr Darcy from P&P, so not very feminine, and Violet just seems a bit fusty and old lady-ish.

Viola? Violette? (Pronounced vee-oh-let)

meettherussians · 24/04/2017 17:37

Violet, by a million miles.

Sophronia · 24/04/2017 17:08

Neither, sorry. Violet if I really had to choose.

BasicBetty · 24/04/2017 16:37

Violet definitely.

DearMrDilkington · 24/04/2017 14:03

Violet. I prefer dulcie to darcy.

ilovechoc1987 · 24/04/2017 14:01

Violet sounds like violent to me sorry.
I'm biased though because my beautiful little girl is called DARCEY.
I know people have said it's common but there are no Darceys in her nursery or in my children's school, so it can't be that common??

IAmALionTamer · 24/04/2017 14:01

Both are nice IMO. There does seem to be a lot of dislike for Darcy on MN which I noticed when I was considering it for my first child.
The hate it gets on MN seems disproportionate to how people I spoke to in real life felt about it. My friends & family weren't the type to hold back if they didn't like a name either

floraeasy · 24/04/2017 13:59

I prefer Violet.

Darcy - D'Arsey? Just thinking of the playground. Sorry!

Chavelita · 24/04/2017 13:54

Presumably the OP would prefer to know if a significant proportion of people have a very strong dislike of Darcy, though.

I share it, personally, though - and my problem with Violet is less the fact that it's getting popular than the fact that a lot of people pronounce it VYE-let, which isn't very nice.

Meeep · 24/04/2017 13:34

Violet, there are tons of Darcys. I've never met a Violet. And Violet is more timeless.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 24/04/2017 13:34

Violet. Darcy is so overused.

Fragglez · 24/04/2017 13:30

My gm and friend are both called violet (40 is yrs difference in age) and both hate it to the point of using their middle names instead. Sorry.

CainDinglesLeatherJacket · 24/04/2017 13:26

Personally a bit biased, but I would say Darcy. Violet isn't to my taste but still beautiful Smile

Don't know why people have to be so outright rude instead of just saying they don't like a name, but I suppose there's always going to be someone who reacts in that way no matter what you pick!
