We have no Dutch heritage, so we aren't going for Schuyler. However, we are unsure if we should go for Skyla/Skylar/Skyler? For our baby girl. She is definitely this name (has been since we knew she was a girl) we are registering her on Tuesday, so need to know Smile

We are going for Skyla. It's the most common spelling and the only spelling that's 100% female.

Schuyler or Skyler. Not Skyla... :=0

Alicekeach · 23/04/2017 18:24

Schuyler. Because that's the way it's spelt. The others look made up.

misdee · 23/04/2017 18:18

Schuyler

AnguaResurgam · 23/04/2017 18:15

In Europe, Schuyler is likely to be pronounced the same as the usual way for the surname (see adaptations of Death on The Nile - it's sort of shoy-ler)

So if you want the sound 'Skyla' spell it 'Skyla'

SillyBub · 23/04/2017 18:13

There are three girls with this name at the school I work at. They are all spelt Skyla.

Lemondrop09 · 23/04/2017 18:09

A feels more feminine that E. So I'd say

Skyla or Skylar for a girl.
Or Skyler for a boy.

I think Skyla is nicest.

Illuminator · 23/04/2017 16:25

Skylar

TheProblemOfSusan · 23/04/2017 09:47

I like Skylar best.

you must have a boy next and call him Lafayette

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/04/2017 09:41

Skyla.

Empireoftheclouds · 23/04/2017 01:06

Depends what you want her name to be surely?

Skyla ends with an 'ah' sound and skylar ends with an 'are'

Spell accordingly

KoalaDownUnder · 23/04/2017 01:00

I prefer Skyla.

OvariesForgotHerPassword · 22/04/2017 22:53

I think in certain circles Schuyler will always have you pegged as musical theatre fans. If that's fine by you then Schuyler away Grin

and Peggy

Sophronia · 22/04/2017 22:43

I've heard that in the US it's usually Skyler for a boy and Skylar for a girl

BartiDdu · 22/04/2017 22:07

In Dutch, Schuyler is a girl's name and Schylar a boy's name. Following that logic, spelling the name as Skyler for a girl would make most sense.

Ellieboolou27 · 22/04/2017 21:49

Skyler I like the best and looks the nicest. Reminds me of breaking bad and I really like the name too.

SmokyRobinson · 22/04/2017 21:47

Or Schuijler

SmokyRobinson · 22/04/2017 21:46

Schuyler is not a Dutch first name - more a last name, but spelled Schuiler

Fauchelevent · 22/04/2017 21:44

I like it as a middle name to Angelica, Eliza or Peggy.

leaves

In all seriousness I prefer Schuyler, or Skylar. Skyla... i don't know if i would choose it but i imagine a very pretty, tanned girl with dark hair, or big blonde curls so if you like it go for it

SmokyRobinson · 22/04/2017 21:44

Skylar for me

AnnoyedofTunbridgeWells · 22/04/2017 21:44

I pronounce Skyla differently from Schuyler so I think you should go with Skylar

PotteringAlong · 22/04/2017 21:42

I would stick with Schuyler.

DramaAlpaca · 22/04/2017 21:40

For ease of spelling I'd go with Skyla.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 22/04/2017 21:39

Skylar

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/04/2017 21:38

Skyla
Skyler
