Anthony

Magnus

Phileas (my favourite)

Blaise (I love it... But I'm a bit hesitant because of the meaning. What if a classmate finds out about it when they're a teen? what if our LO does have a lisp?)

Hector

Jonathan

I personally think we're having a boy this time around (I don't want to know in advance)... And we unfortunately still don't have a boy's name. The only one DH vetoed was Severin, btw...

Blaise makes me think Blaze which is cool but also makes me think of the annoying monster truck :o. However when seeing it written it makes me think of Pascal which is awesome.

Phileas would I think get mistaken for Phineas. As in Ferb.

That said I really like the sound of both of them. Magnus is awesome too!

nancy75 · 23/04/2017 00:03

I like Hector, Blaise sounds like an old lady name to me

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 23/04/2017 00:03

Lucie
Is he actually a Phileas? huh. makes me like the name even more... I did know that there was a Saint Phileas.

Phileas Fogg (Around the world in 80 Days)

I like all of them except Phileas. Phineas is ok though.

My favourite from the list is Magnus.

Lucie Hetero

What Fogg? THat's why I need mumsnet. I have no idea what you're talking about (off to google it).

ery odd imo, kid would constantly have to spell this out and every Xmas / birthday card will be Mis-spelt...

I think it's more likely that people are going to have issues with the surname, tbh... Is Blaise really this difficult to spell?

Blaise was the one with the... interesting (somewhat deadly) mother, right?

Yes Mrs Zabini was a bit of a black widow!
Hmm

I doubt you'd meet many others with the same name.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 22/04/2017 21:58

Jonathan's my favourite. I also like Phileas (despite the strong association with Fogg). Magnus is a fine, strong name but the meaning does put me off - I'd feel somehow a bit arrogant calling a child that, even though I no doubt would think he was great Grin Anthony's good. Not keen on Blaise or Hector.

LucieLucie · 22/04/2017 21:53

Anthony^ maybe^

Magnus nope

Phileas (my favourite)^ nope ...Phileas fogg throat sweets spring to my mind^

Blaise (I love it... But I'm a bit hesitant because of the meaning. What if a classmate finds out about it when they're a teen? what if our LO does have a lisp?)^ nope...very odd imo, kid would constantly have to spell this out and every Xmas / birthday card will be Mis-spelt^

Hector^ no way^

Jonathan^ yes ^

It only hits me in the face because I used to be a Harry/Draco shipper and Blaise was a good antagonist there! :D

Drama

Yes, Magnus and Jonathan seem to be the most popular ones. :)

CactusFred · 22/04/2017 21:41

I think Blaise was too minor a character to have HP associations for most.

It only hits me in the face because I used to be a Harry/Draco shipper and Blaise was a good antagonist there!

I do like the name.

DramaAlpaca · 22/04/2017 21:38

From your list I really like Magnus and Jonathan.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 22/04/2017 21:36

Super

Is there something bad about Blaise Pascal? I thought it was a rather nice name association.

Ah, Hector is such an adorable name imo. Plus, Heck or Heckie are both really cute nn imo :)

SuperBeagle · 22/04/2017 21:19

Phileas looks like it should be Phineas, so I don't like it.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 22/04/2017 21:18

Jooni Galadriel You've both mentioned Phineas.

I actually do like Phineas. I thought Phileas was a bit more well known than Phineas. Which is why I went for it. I just really like the sound of that name... It didn't make me think of Filius, but Filius is a pretty cool character, isn't it?

OP posts:
SuperBeagle · 22/04/2017 21:18

Magnus is the best and Hector the worst. My best friend has a four year old cousin named Hector who lives in the UK and we still crack up over his name. It's so awful. I can't understand it's appeal at all.

Blaise would be difficult for the average kid to pull off because it's so strongly associated with Pascal.

Jooni · 22/04/2017 20:58

Love Magnus! Hector is also great.

I dislike Blaise personally, but objectively I don't think it's too lisping or particularly teaseworthy. I actually think a little boy would find it quite cool to have a name that sounds like "Blaze".

Phileas is a bit odd. It makes me think first and foremost of Professor (Filius) Flitwick from Harry Potter, who's a nice positive character but not exactly a cool namesake. I much prefer Phineas, which I think would be a bold but beautiful choice.

LagoMaggiore · 22/04/2017 18:20

Anthony. Cool NNs, too.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 22/04/2017 18:17

Nobody seems to like Phileas. I really like the name (and the nicknames)...

Hm...

So, dear mumsnetters, you don't think Blaise is too lisping? Will give any potential bullies a lot of ammunition? Or that I'm just kind of gambling with the possibility of the LO having some sort of speech issue? (I know it's irrational. But pregnancy, also the last time with DD) seems to make me susperstitious...

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/04/2017 17:18

Jonathan and Anthony are great.

BounceBounceSplishSplash · 22/04/2017 16:35

Magnus is my favourite. Phileas is my least favourite closely followed by Blaise

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 22/04/2017 16:29

Magnus seems to be the most popular.

Followed by Jonathan and Blaise. Anthony seems to be liked by some.

And nobody likes Phileas, do they?

Interesting. Thanks :)

Magnus

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 22/04/2017 16:24

Magnus is an awesome name. I'd shorten it to Gus, personally.

Then Blaise, Anthony, Phileas and Jonathan.

Saucery · 22/04/2017 16:20

Jonathan or Anthony
