We love the name Jack John for a boy, JJ as nn

But I am aware that Jack is/was used as a nn for John in the past. (I don't think that many people are aware of it now from what I've surmised)

What do you think?

Jack is often used as a short form of John, but is actually the same name as James and Jacob.

Ethan John sounds lovely!

I always understood from my mum that Jack was a nickname for James, and that it came from the French Jacques, which seemed prefectly logical at the time. Its only since I came on mumsnet that I've heard people say it's a form of John.

Most Jacks I know have it as a given name, although one is John James, known as Jack. But Ethan definitely sovled your problem! Grin

I taught a "J" once. No other bits to his name, that was his official name. He was a pita :)

Still time to change but we're both swaying towards Ethan John at the moment, as it's one we both like Smile

I love John as a name.
It is a great first name and second name.

Louis John is very handsome. Freddie John is gorgeous.

If you want JJ - Jeremy John, Jameson John, Jasper John.

Jack is a nick name of John so it's good that you found that out.

I have a cousin called Joshua John which gets shorted to JJ, I don't think everyone will make the jack and john connection and it's not like you use the middle name every day

Jj would be come enough in Ireland. Usually John Joseph or John James or the other way around. I think there is enough Jacks around now. I wouldnt add to it. But John is a lovely name hardly ever seen now .

I would say that it is widely known that Jack is a nn for John, also that Jack has been hugely popular for some years now, so for those reasons I wouldn't use it.

Louis John I liked until I realised Loo and John are both words for toilet so definitely not those together. Ethan John is nice.

I think John works as a middle name with nearly every name (except Jack!).

Frederick John (would it be Frederick?) or Louis John are great.

Like your mum says, people rarely say the full name (my son has a great middle name that really flows well but I doubt anyone in his life outside family actually know it)

@Floellabella my mums said that too. I think you're right I was getting a little too hung up on it.

DP liked Myles as well - I didn't mind it either until we realised - DPs last name is Holmes 😂😂😂

It's definitely been scrapped now, I just think I needed to hear it from others, as the people I've mentioned it too didn't seem to know a thing about it! BlushSmile

We're batting around a few other names now, ones I wouldn't of thought DP would of gone for and we now have Noah and Ethan into the mix so we're not feeling as lost now!
