Emmanuelle first impressions?

First impressions on Emmanuelle? It's the only girl's name so far that DH & I both like, but the few Emmanuelle's we've known have been French and I'm not confident it works outside French culture? We don't have French heritage btw. Nickname probably Emmy.

I'm another one who immediately thought of the porn movies. I also note if you google it that's what comes up there too, although by the second page there are other links too.

A couple of French names I have always liked are Garence and Ghislaine. Fabienne and Pascale are nice too.

Its one of the school mums names. She is French though and rocks it.

As a name itself I think its OK (if you are not French). If you are French I think it is lovely.

One of DDs friends is Gabriella (Ella.) I think my only hesitation over Gabrielle is it's likely to be shortened to gabby which I just don't really like Blush But then, I DO really like Emmanuelle.

I know a boy called it. Calling his name is just awkward. It doesn't suit him as I'm not entirely sure who it suits. It doesn't go well in our accent. Its a no from me, its not a bad name, just awkward sounding if that makes sense?!

Gabrielle? Similar?

The first Emmanuelle film starred Marlon Brando so were very high profile in the early 1970s. Probably very tame by the standards of Grey etc these days. haven't seen them myself.

I agree lovely name but unfortunate connotations

I like it, but I do immediately associate it with the porn films. A friend of mine has it as a middle name, and for years wouldn't say what the initial "E" of her middle name stood for because she was embarrassed about the porny connotations. A shame really because it's a pretty name.
