Thoughts on Jovie

Hi,

Need some advice, we both like the name Jovie but others have said it sounds like J0bby, especially in Glaswegian accent! Don't know what to do as we both love the name and have few other ideas but don't want to risk it if people will associate it with that word.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm surprised there are so many negative reactions to it. Tbh it has nothing to do with Bon Jovi and we didn't really think so many people would make that association Shock It's for a girl and we thought it sounds really nice and is related to Jove/jovial. What about Jovia?

Too similar to Bon Jovi. I know a Jovianne though.

twattymctwatterson · 19/04/2017 23:38

And you live in Glasgow? Please don't do that to your child

Riderontheswarm · 19/04/2017 23:36

I saw it and thought Juvie in an Australian accent as in young offender or young offenders' institute. Now everyone else has pointed out the bon jovie thing that's all I can think about.

AuntMatilda · 19/04/2017 23:31

I adore it. And once had a mouse called it. But those statements are unrelated. I really really like the name.

Bongiovi (sic?) Means 'good life' in Italian. It's a nod to that :)

Singingforsanity · 19/04/2017 23:18

I thought jovial, but I reckon that kid will get a lot of shit (sorry) in the playground.

anxietyrus · 19/04/2017 23:13

I like it Blush

💩💩💩💩

You can't know it sounds like slang for shite then do it anyway, you just can't.

EnjoyYourVegetables · 19/04/2017 23:01

Bon Jovi but that has to be a generational association which will pass.

2014newme · 19/04/2017 22:59

Definitely choose that name
😂😂😂😂

just for funsies, i would like to share the best tribute band name ever: By Jovi

don't name your kid after JBJ. call it Tempest after Joey Tempest off of Europe.

WhyOhWine · 19/04/2017 22:33

Isn't that the name of buddy's love interest in Elf?

thebakerwithboobs · 19/04/2017 22:31

Midnight that's exactly what I was going to say!

Midnightprobs · 19/04/2017 22:30

It made me think of "juvie" from the Australian soap (as in juvenile detention facility)!

buttercup54321 · 19/04/2017 21:34

Terrible. Think of Bon Jovie straight away then Jovial. Don't go there!!!!

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 19/04/2017 21:33

I really don't like it, sorry!

Johnny?

countycouncil · 19/04/2017 21:08

I like it, makes me think of "jovial"

Willow2017 · 19/04/2017 20:52

Sorry but no.
Bon Jovi are my fave band since forever but still wouldn't inflict that that name on my child.

BackforGood · 19/04/2017 20:48

you're living on a prayer op

Grin

Agree people would probably hear it as 'Jodie' if they weren't singing a bit of classic rock at you

ScarlettFreestone · 19/04/2017 20:42

As in a sort of female version of Jove? God of Sky and Thunder?

Or as in Jon Bon Jovi? His real name is Bongiovi.

Erm. I'm not sure I would. Unless I'm missing another meaning for the name.

Fridgedooropen · 19/04/2017 20:38

I assumed it was Jodie with a typo.
