Thoughts on Jovie

Hi,

Need some advice, we both like the name Jovie but others have said it sounds like J0bby, especially in Glaswegian accent! Don't know what to do as we both love the name and have few other ideas but don't want to risk it if people will associate it with that word.

I love Elf and Zooey Deschanel is so beautiful, she definitely makes the name Jovie attractive. I like the name. I really like Jolie too, but I would get annoyed with people muddling it with the names Jodie and Josie which I really don't like.

I've watched Elf but didn't remember the love interest's name.

Personally I've never heard of it and if I saw the name I'd assume that it was a misprint of Josie or Jodie.

Makes me think of the woman in Elf. Was that her name, or something similar? I quite like it and didn't think of Bon Jovi at all.

Jovia sounds like a brand of incontinence pants. I'm afraid that both Jovia and Jovie give love a bad name....

I did think of Elf, but think it's rather sweet and I like it.

I'm with the Elf contingent on "Jovie". But it could be worse. you could be calling her "Buddy The Elf What's Your Favourite Colour".

And "Jovia" is worse - sounds like one of those sugar substitutes (Stevia, Truvia, Jovia). And both will end up with years of enduring "Jodie?" as pp say.

As for the origins of it, "Jovial" is like the fat man's equivalent of "Bubbly" for a fat woman. Surely there is a nicer "happy"-based name if that is where you are getting inspiration from?

Which area in Glasgow OP? You might get away with it in some of the very affluent areas but wee Jovia will probably get a terrible time at school otherwise.

If you like that sound, Josie is a pretty name for a girl.
