Emer Lily- Opinions?

I think we've just about settled on Emer Lily (pronounced EE-mer). We've gone back and forth with Orla and Emer but we've taken the plunge and decided Emer's probably the best. What do you think of Emer Lily?

Our other children are Killian Joshua, Aoife Rose, Aislinn Juliet, Ruairi Benjamin and Lachlan Isaac. Does her name go well with theirs?
General opinions would be much appreciated.

I've got a friend called emer. Lovely girl and lovely name, especially when said with a gorgeous Irish accent! Smile there are loads of orlas here in the south of England at the moment. Emer is better imo!

The pronunciation won't be a problem at all!

I love the name Emer, it was on my list when I was pregnant with DS - there was a lovely doctor on 24 hours in A&E with the name. I don't think Emer Lily 'goes' though, to me I think a single syllable middle name would be nicer.

Like the names but not together. Sounds like someone trying to pronounce Emily in a crazy way. I think Emer needs a longer middle name

Emer is a gorgeous name. My cat is called Emer and I am strongly considering taking the name back from her for a future daughter. I really like all of your kids' name but am really not a fan of Lily and not sure that it goes.

Emer Lily is a beautiful name. I wouldn't spell it Ima. That might encourage the pronunciation 'I'm a' which isn't nearly as pretty. The Irish spelling is lovely too.

Its a lovely name - there's quite a few in my kids classes (both spellings - Emer and Eimear). I also know Emer and Aoife siblings. Is Lily which I also like going to be used as part of the name - said on a daily basis, or is it just a middle name? Both names are grand, they go nicely with your other kids but I don't usually stress about that. Once the kids get up a bit they don't usually say their own name with all their siblings, it's just parents that do. I much prefer a Emer to Orla. I find Orla a bit dated.

I think it's a bit bland but inoffensive. Will it be Emer or Emer Lily? I think the latter is a bit of a mouthful

Emer isn't pronounced emm-er. It's eem-er, where I come from at least. So not like Emma in a West Country accent.

I've lived in the West Country too and nobody I knew there put a random r at the end of words with no r in them anyway. They just pronounced the r sounds which are silent in other parts of England, like where I live now (Home Counties) and people say things like "watah" instead of water or "buttah" instead of butter, for example. So even in a West Country accent Emma would be Emma, not Emmer afaik.

I'm English but the name Emer Lily looks like a misspelled Emily. (Emilily?) I would go for Emer but with a different middle name.

I have an Irish friend named Emer and she pronounces in EEEEE-ma. (definitely not pronouncing "R" on the end)

You'll just need to be patient and correct people if they get it wrong-my DD's name has two different pronunciations and she hates when ppl get it wrong but I love her name so when ppl get it wrong I just say it back to them how we pronounce it.

I am Irish but live in England. I prefer Orla to Emer, but both are nice. Maybe wait till she arrives and see which suits her best?

Sounds like Emma in a west county accent to me and I can't get past that. Really like Orla though.

Personally prefer Orla, but not Orla Lily - too many L's!

I'd spell in Eimear, beautiful name and as you're in Ireland ther won't be any pronunciation issues. Ima is a ridiculous spelling!!

In my southern English accent, both beginning and ending sounds are the same but I can see not in an Irish accent so go for it! It's a lovely name.

@Thatextrainch you're not wrong but not right either. Emer is a variation in spelling of Eimear, neither are the anglicised version, I think?

I'd pronounce it like Emma, but it wouldn't be a problem in Ireland, presumably. I like it 😊
