I quite like it. I first came across it on One Tree Hill.

I've never heard of quim and I doubt any of your child's peers will have.

There are two Quinns in my DCs school. One a boy and one a girl.

I like it.

I'd never heard of 'Quim' until I went to uni to study literature. I don't think it's a word in regular modern usage so i'd forget about that.

To me, Quinn sounds light and clean

Well if you want to call your daughter a name meaning vagina then go ahead. Let's hope she doesn't ever study any Chaucer at school

It doesn't mean vagina, quim means vagina.

One of DD's friends who's 6 is called Quinn.

It's not to my taste, but it's not terrible.

I'd also say it's more of a girls' name now. As soon as girls start appropriating names, boys tend to rush to stop using them. Well, the parents of girls/boys...

I hate it, but mainly because I make the association with a really horrible boy, with that name, in my younger son's class. I actually never realised it could be a girl's name - I've only ever heard it used for boys.

What's mewlingquim? I'm actually finding this so funny this is defo not a word used in Scotland full stop and certainly not one children would be aware of Blush I've even asked 'older' colleagues and they haven't heard of it either lol

No never seen scandal, I remember the girl in glee being called Quinn when I watched that years ago but then I just came across it on a baby name list and I can't get it out of my head! OH hates it though Confused as for quim I've genuinely never heard that, defo not a word that's used in Scotland anyway! Thanks all Grin

We've just called our new rabbit Quinn! He is male and it's short for Tarquin Balthazar - my kids named him! To be honest, for a male the name has grown on me. I don't really like it for a girl.

I think the Quim thing is certainly regional, but it's certainly a consideration-it's the same as why I wouldn't call a girl Pippa. Means nothing in the UK, but if you pop over to, say, Italy....

Quinn is traditionally a boy's name (as a pet form of Quinton) and a couple of recent TV programmes might prove less enduring about which sex usually receives the name than the long-standing use in U.K.

Well Daria was around in the 90s, so not exactly "recent", and it's statistically used more for girls than boys...

Meredith is traditionally a boy's name and surname, but most people aren't going to name their son Meredith.

It's too surname for me. And as pointed out it has a highly unfortunate sound-a-like association.

In general, one syllable names always sound very harsh, and adding a Y to soften it ("Quinny"? Ugh) makes them sound infantile.

Bet you can't guess how I know all this...!
