Left wing boy baby name ideas?!

slicerrice · 15/04/2017 15:29

Hi- does anyone have any left wing historical/political boys name ideas? I'm having a boy in August and after some ideas!
My DH is French so ideally the name needs to work in French too...

Thanks!

Our lastname is Marx

I see. Did the occur naturally or was it a.... creative choice?

BasilFaulty · 09/12/2018 16:24

I really want to know what it was called!! Angry

brads88 · 04/12/2018 20:57

I don't know if they're particularly political but there are lots of nice French names... Etienne, Remy, Loic...

SilverySurfer · 04/12/2018 10:34

Trotsky?
Gordon?

Blair? 😬

Maybe not.

Terfing · 03/12/2018 20:33

I do wonder what the baby was eventually called?

pipilangstrumpf · 03/12/2018 17:42

Texas, this thread is over a year old and the baby probably already named!

Militant Leftist names with french roots:
Jacobin

Voltaire
Lafayette

Love, if I ever get goldfish, I shall name them Beyoncé and Sheldon!

I guess what I'm trying to say is parents choose a name for the child that they believe reflects positively on them. Be it a reflection of beliefs, aspirations or culture. We all do it one way or another.

I love Adam, it would have been my DD's name had she been a boy.

Primal

My mother is very left-wing. Anti-gun, anti-capitalist, into expressive dance, against any kind of violence (even controlled violence in sports) and sent me to a Waldorfschool.

I turned out to be... quite different. And so did my little sister Wink

"left-wing name Marx" will most likely end up becoming a quite conservative man (imo)...

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 16/04/2017 20:59

Love the suggestion of Adam Marx.

You could also go for Charles, Kalle, Carlos or Chuck Marx.

I actually really like Chuck Marx. Huh... Interesting. Not sure why, tbh Wink

But I personally would go for a neutral name. Nathaniel? Thomas? Julius?

lovecreameggs · 16/04/2017 20:37

Primal are they Beyoncé and sheldon? Wink

PrimalChic · 16/04/2017 08:43

I know a Karl and a Kier. Both have leftie parents, neither grew up to be a Tory MP!

I don't see what the problem is with choosing a name that reflects your own beliefs or passions in life. My children are named after a scientist and a public figure I really respect.

BeyondUser24601 · 16/04/2017 08:42

Ernesto - suggested by DH :)

To me it's no different to asking for a Christian name or a nature name or a name that means star etc they're all themed.

I think if you went for something too obvious eg karl with your surname that would be a bit Hmm but there are lots of generic names that have a left wing connotation

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 16/04/2017 08:25

Or like how some parents in NI might choose Niamh and some might choose Amy, depending on their beliefs?

Agree Fidel would be silly and unfair, but Fabian or keir are fine!

TinfoilHattie · 16/04/2017 08:12

If my parents had called me a name purely because it was left-wing I would definitely have gone in the other direction to spite them.

Totally disagree that it's the same as people asking for names that are strong or classic. Political beliefs are very personal and left wing parents do not automatically equal left wing offspring. Advertising your beliefs through your children is all shades of wrong. It's like SNP voters choosing a name like Independence or Holyrood for their child.

ButtonmushroomEx · 16/04/2017 06:13

daffodilbrain · 16/04/2017 06:01

A left wing name? Really? I bet you're a real joy to have about. Why not be really alternative and go with a name you like. Serve you right if your son is a Tory PM!
