Middle name for William

Narrowed down name choices for DS3 to William James or William Noah. I know for many people these are all far too popular but we like and actually agree on both options (a bloody miracle) and aren't too worried about popularity.

Which do you prefer? Last name similar to Johnstone.

Any other middle name suggestions welcome but we have considered a LOT of names and at least one of us has ruled out most of them. My favourite was probably Jude but DH was having none of it.

William James - my DS's middle names are William James, so I am obviously totally unbiased! We went with two middle names as William is my Dad's middle name and my grandfather's forename, and James is DH's middle name and his grandfather's forename.

If your surname begins with J, I would suggest looking for an alternative to James to avoid it being a bit of a mouthful. Our surname begins with W, hence us going with William James, rather than James William.

I also have a William Henry. I had this really lovely patient (I'm a nurse) called William Henry when I was pregnant and the name combination just stuck with me.

William Arthur Philip Louis

William John
William Andrew
William James

Before I clicked I thought please don't suggest James! Too many of them. Noah would be a far less common middle name and goes well I think.
Also;
William Joseph
William Henry
William Charles
William Edward
William Isaac
William Joel

I have a William and a James. Both great names that I still love 10 and 15 years down the line. Neither has dated. I think Noah might.

NappingRabbit · 12/04/2017 17:18

Looks like William James is the clear winner out of our two options. It's my favourite, William Noah is DH's preferred option but he's happy with either.

I like William Jacob, might try that one on him later, but think I still prefer James.

I was going to suggest James before I'd even clicked in the thread. I think they go really nicely.

NappingRabbit · 11/04/2017 21:47

I like Arthur, George and Alexander (royal names generally good in my book) but all have already been vetoed.
