What names have you been put off?

Oh blimey. My name is on here, I do match it, honestly! although I've never liked it and just wanted something I could blend away into the background with.
And my daughter really suits her name, matches her personality and appearance too.
My son's name is on here. He is kind but misunderstood at times.
Names I hate?
Michelle. I know one lovely person with that name. The others I've encountered have been awful. I knooowww there will be loads of people here with that name, I'm sure you're lovely, but if you've ever been the Michelle who cheated on a very kind and loving man, just know you didn't deserve him in the first place. He's happy now, you selfish, spoiled, cold and vacuous being.
Darren... makes me shudder.

There are so many I completely vetoed while pregnant with all three of my children.
Sperm donor of son wanted Stacey that was a big no.
Sperm donor of eldest daughter wanted a variety of 80's (Gemma-Leigh, Kay-leigh, etc) double barrelled first, middle and last names. Didn't happen apart from her last name which she's recently changed to drop his and keep mine. And her first name is lovely, I've not met anyone who doesn't like it, and it's not been mentioned on here yet.
Your name is what you make of it. If you love Bryony, go for it. If you love Angus, go ahead. Love Lana? You name that child.

MadisonAvenue - one of my FB friends has two daughters. One looks perfectly normal, the other has the most evil smile. Dead in the eyes. Freaks me out every time I see her, but yet I can't look away!
When I was pregnant, DH liked Amber. But there was a high chance of us having a redhead DD so couldn't risk it. Also, I remember it being referred to as a stripper name in a TV program.

Just heard on Radio 4 Women's Hour this morning that someone called Myra hadn't met another until she met Myra Hindley when she was working at the prison. Neither had ever met another Myra.

Don't worry sianlis I only know nice Amys. Dd has a name that people say are all bitches, but dd is lovely and not a bitch at all.

I really liked the name Penelope, but went off it when I found out that a Kardashian had given her daughter that name. (bit snooty of me, I know!)

I used to love Sophia...still think it is lovely but really common these days. Too many Lily-Maes and Rosies too.

car mine is on the list too! I also gave my children an umcommon name as i was never the only person with my name anywhere! Yet both their names are now popular! One has even apeared pn the list

Oh dear my name has appeared a least twice and I am nice really. Gave my kids less common names (at the time) and both complain because although DS name is more "common" now it is usually spelt differently and DDs is welsh and neither have ever found anything (keyrings/mug/xmas decs etc) with their names on and blame me!

That's interesting about George and the rhyming slang origin.
My family used that word and I'd never heard it anywhere else. All the other kids I knew would say number two, or jobbie, or big jobs. Not to mention a grown up friend whose dp once said to her, 'Oh, do go away, darling - I'm doing big jobs.' 😄

Still remember vividly some visiting kid of about 3 calling at the top of her voice, 'Mummy-will-you-come-to-me-cos-I-am-on-the-lavvy-and-I-have-done-a-jobbie!'

Possibly the most monumental bitch I've ever known. Made up hideous rumours about me (so bad her friends got hold of me to inform me, as they didn't believe it and knew me slightly through her). Then denied the whole thing when I spoke to her about it.....

I adore the name iris - it's on the 'list' is this next one is a girl, however a few people have made comments to us that it's a bit close to Isis at the moment 😔.

My best friend has a dog named Isis, named before the whole ISIS thing. It even seems inappropriate for a dog now. Nothing quite like shouting, "Isis!" across the dog park.

I hated the name Joanne but called dd Joanna which feels totally different. She still ended up as Jo.

I liked Layla but someone I really disliked from school got in there first and used the name a few months before my DD was born. I called her Lola instead. Tbh people tend to sing the Barry manilow song rather than the kinks (not sure if that's better haha) also although most people are familiar with the kinks song few actually realise what it's about so I think in 10/15 years time even less will (hope )
