This is driving me crazy... Please give me your (very honest!) opinion

Boy's names... I thought they were sorted. (I was wrong. Let's hope the girl's names stay sorted...)

I LOVE KEIR! Wanted this for my first child but it doesn't go with his surname unfortunately

My top choice for my Ds was Keir but DH vetoed it and we ended up with a Ben instead. No regrets, but I still like Keir (not Keiran!).

St. Mungos is the wizarding hospital in Harry Potter!

Idk. I don't think it's wrong to use the name. But I personally couldn't.

Then again. DD is currently called Chippie/Chip (which is also a slur, according to google. Although luckily a less common one).
She has a lovely, classical name. And that's what happens... I blame DH's family. They all have the weirdest nicknames. (I'm not kidding btw. I choose to look at it as a lovely English custom... Wink)

Yeah I'm with you..... just not mungo ok LOL Baigh is Scottish apparently, had a wee look at a list there and had never seen that one before! Defo different

I've heard of a st mungos (can't remember if it is a hosp or school tbh) but as a child's name it immediately makes me think of 'mongo' which is a horrible name and makes me so angry when ppl use it! It must be a very hipster thing to get away with a name like that, or someone 'from money'

Honest Queen, don't know where you are but St Kentigern is also called Mungo and is outside the art gallery in Glasgow and Mungo Park was an explorer. I went to primary school with two Mungos... one's dad was an ageing rocker and the other a lecturer... maybe it's a hipster Glasgow thing...

Magnus is Icelandic but there are a few in Scotland via the Highlands I guess.

Don't worry, we won't have a Mungo. It sounds like an awful slur for a person with trisonomy 21 in my own language... I just couldn't bring myself to call this out in a park (or anywhere).
I'm sure it's a nice name. But for me the connotations are pretty awful.

ilikebeanswithketchup you are right, majority are more Celtic/Irish, there isn't much choice with Scottish names really, they are either really dated or over used! Although I love Harris!

Magnus is a fabulous name. My most favourite boss was called Magnus, an absolute gentleman. It's classy and elegant.

I love Lazarus. Oh wow... What a beautiful name. But maybe a bit too out there.

ILike I don't know anything about Scottish sectors of society (well, DH went to university in Scotland. But I love him to bits, but he's about as socially competent as a piece of wood....)
But I do love Magnus. Magnus is good and sensible, right?

Queen , there was quite a lot wrong with the 80s list :it's very twee and Scottish but your list makes me a bit sad if that's Scotland as it feels so un-Scottish..

I omitted all the Ronnies, Donnies and Kennys I knew, assuming you wouldn't go for those OP!

And lots of boys called Louis and Anton, along with a million Jakes

I keep imagining a cigarillo (...) smoking Italian man with a gold ring. But he was a lovely chap, one of the best friends of my dear grandmother...
Plus, I thought a child may like the Iron man association? (I maybe wrong...)

Interesting.... Tony, Tone, Ant..... I guess you don't run the risk of other children running up to you at the park when you call him over for a packet of raisins! One of mine is called Felix and I know that is not to lots of people's tastes. But he was a twin (both boys - the other boy starts with an F so that's a whole other thread about whether it's twee or Kardashian-esque!) and DH and I had to work quite a way down each of our lists of names until we reached a compromise lol. Go with what you like, ultimately. Gregory and Anthony just sound particularly dated to me. But truly, each to his own 😘

Hm... Well. "Interesting" is pretty much what MIL said when she head DD's name. Wasn't a selection but her actual name (registered and everything) Wink

Max... Hm. I've kind of scratched it off.

Mmmm. Well. Erm. Interesting selection there.... Max would be the only one I'd consider. Maximilian on the birth certificate and handing out a scalding or whispering sweet things when he's falling to sleep in your arms maybe. If you were a friend and you asked me to my face I'd say they all sound lovely and you should choose whatever you like. I'd never be so rude to say otherwise. But as you have asked for honesty and my comment will be pretty insignificant for you then, there you go ^^
