Pretty much what the title says really!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Zion is a great name!

And Zionism simply means recognising the right of the jews to an ancestral homeland. Nothing wrong with that.

It is indeed biblical. Go for it if you like it!

steppemum · 07/04/2017 16:20

I like strong Bible names, so that wouldn't bother me, but as name it is attached to a massive political movement and I wouldn't want that.

I would imagine it would mean he couldn't travel to any mddle east/arab countries without a lot of hassle either

Usanayme · 07/04/2017 16:20

It's way too close to Zionism and Zionist... It's like choosing Isis right now. Pretty girls name but not the time or political climate

TheBookIsOnTheTable · 07/04/2017 16:20

"And they saying Iron like a Lion in Zion
Iron like a Lion in Zion
Iron Lion Zion"

Good song though

badabing36 · 07/04/2017 16:19

I would worry that he would have to debate the Israel/Palestine conflict his whole life.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/04/2017 16:18

I'm singing I'm gonna be ion like a lion in Zion outloud to myselfGrin

ChippieFishieHorshie · 07/04/2017 16:17

It's too controversial imo...
Sorry.

With eyes turned toward the East, looking toward Zion...

I mean, I just think that names with very obvious political statements are... kind of irresponsible (maybe that's rude, sorry. But it is my personaly opinion)

Whatslovegottodo · 07/04/2017 16:16

Not good makes me think of Zionism.

TheBookIsOnTheTable · 07/04/2017 16:16

I wouldn't pronounce it to rhyme with Lion, as I say Li-un and Zion for me is definitely Zi-ON.

This.

Isn't it a biblical (Old Testament) term for Israel?

Jerusalem, yes. Feels a bit like calling a child Bethlehem to me.

LouKout · 07/04/2017 16:15

I just found your post somewhat contentious

LouKout · 07/04/2017 16:15

I like many names that are of different cultures.

Buck3t · 07/04/2017 16:14

Lou - I didn't call anyone a racist. But if you are not used to something that is of a different culture to your own. Why would you like it. Most people don't like things that are different, or unusual. So no. More likely I was calling people boring at worst. Not racist.

Enlightenment is not to get people to like "black" sounding names, but rather to accept them. So I beg you do take a seat and bring up the racist argument elsewhere

NataliaOsipova · 07/04/2017 16:13

PaintingOwls · 07/04/2017 16:12

Makes me think of Zionism Hmm

What about Dion?

LouKout · 07/04/2017 16:09

Anyway OP if you like the name go for it Flowers

LouKout · 07/04/2017 16:09

So you need to enlighten people who dont like a name which you think sounds "black" because they are a bunch of racists? Thats quite an offensive assumption

Montsti · 07/04/2017 16:08

There's a little boy in my daughters class called Zion - it really suits him! It wouldn't be my choice but I have very conservative taste in names but, if you love it, go for it!

WindwardCircle · 07/04/2017 16:08

I like the sound of the name, but the political connotations attached to it put it in the no category for me.

TheBookIsOnTheTable · 07/04/2017 16:06

It's a bit Jewish/Reggae for me.

EssentialHummus · 07/04/2017 16:05

Nope, the political connotations are insurmountable IMO.

Buck3t · 07/04/2017 16:05

Guinnesspunch yes name debates on this site remind me I am an "other" in this country. But I'm trying to bring positivity and hope to enlighten. Whether I succeed I don't know. 😂

MrsMeeseeks · 07/04/2017 16:03

It's a bit pretentious, IMO. I know two Zions and both sets of parents are very, er, 'aspirational'.

BertrandRussell · 07/04/2017 16:03

Well, if you think he and everyone he ever meets will somehow be able to detach himself/themselves from the hugely complex political connotations, then go for it.

In the real world? No.

LouKout · 07/04/2017 16:02

I dont dislike it because it sounds black Hmm
