You absolutely cannot use Bea for a boy. It's cruel and unusual.

Are you about to give birth btw? If so put the baby book down till he's here and then decide. Pre-birth hormones do weird things.

There are so many actual names (I have a book of 1000). Why do people have to start making up stupid pretendy ones to blight their poor unsuspecting babies with???

Its a surname. Also, how is it pronounced? Is it Bee-gan or Beh-gan or Bay-gan? Seeing it written makes me think of Fagan from Oliver Twist for some reason.

All of the above means I'm not a fan.

Oh sorry, for a boy. Well, don't call him Bea then. You could call him B or Bee but it'll sound like Bea which will be in 'A Boy Named Sue' territory.

Do you know any females with this name? When people say 'made it up' they may mean 'found on a baby name site'. I've never heard of anyone called Beagan. I've never even heard of it as a surname. It reminds me of beagle and Reagan and bogan and vegan and Keegan so generally it's not nice. If you want to call your daughter Bea why not call her Beatrice or Beatrix or any other established name beginning with B eg Belinda or Bella. I know a Bridget who's always called B.

Bea is a pretty well established girl's name though. Beatrice, Beatrix etx.

Google finds it on 'babyname' type sites as a gaelic/irish boy's name meaning 'little one' - but I'm never sure I believe those. There are more references to it as an Irish surname.

Northern - I haven't said I had an issue with opinions? I have an issue with people saying I've made it up and it isn't a name.

Oh no. I usually love unusual names. But no. I live in Ireland. I am Irish. I have never heard of it. Bea (from Beatrice) is cute for a little girl though. But Beagan? Don't do it.

It is unusual, but that's what we wanted. We aren't living in Ireland (we are actually living in Wales)...

It may be a name. Lots of real names are awful. You asked, we are answering. It's just not a nice sound. Unless it's spelt Beagan and pronounced Isobel or something? I'm assuming it's a girls name because you suggested Bea as a short which would be generally a girls form.

It will sound like begin or begone are you sure you want your Dds name to sound likd just a word. If you want to call her Bea call her Bea.
