I love both of these names, which do you prefer? Thank you. Smile

Mary

LadyCassandra · 08/04/2017 07:14

I know a Margot and she is my favourite four year old girl. Mary is a bit meh

HeadlessGummyBears · 08/04/2017 06:30

I remember reading Anne Frank's diary when I was a kid, it was part of a project at school, and I loved her older sister's name Margot. So I'd choose Margot even though Mary is also a fab name.

DramaAlpaca · 07/04/2017 23:00

I really dislike Margot.

Mary is much nicer.

lazytuesday · 07/04/2017 21:57

Margot. Gorgeous name!

PunkAssMoFo · 07/04/2017 21:55

Margot.
Mary is dull and means 'sea of bitterness'.

buttercup54321 · 07/04/2017 21:03

Both dated. Margot reminds me of a maggot

Mary by miles

RedStripeIassie · 07/04/2017 19:10

Mary is a understated stylish name. Between me and dh we have about 100 Mary's in our families so it's middle name territory only.

Margot sounds middle aged and dumpy to me but I know it's very popular at the moment.

harderandharder2breathe · 07/04/2017 19:06

Margot

Logolphin · 07/04/2017 19:06

Margot!

ArseyTussle · 07/04/2017 18:58

Margot of course. She is witty, stylish and cosmopolitan.

Mary is a bit lumpen.

Hellofromme · 07/04/2017 18:53

Don't like either but Mary is worst.

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/04/2017 11:44

For me Mary has too many religious overtones. It’s my middle name and the middle name of every girl I grew up with too. But if you didn’t attend a convent school for 14 years you probably don’t have the same associations! Grin

I prefer Margot. It has a cool 1940s vibe. And it’s not frilly, always a plus.

marmitecheesetoast · 07/04/2017 11:32

Mary is beautiful, have always loved the name, so classic and timeless. Not keen on Margot I'm afraid.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/04/2017 11:04

As far as I'm aware the G is silent, so Margo. I could be wrong though.

HateSummer · 07/04/2017 10:56

Is margot pronounced mar-got? Or Margo?
It always reminds me of a hyacinth buckett type character from the Victorian age.

Mary is timeless isn't it.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/04/2017 10:54

Mary.

SuperBeagle · 07/04/2017 09:31

I love Mary.

Can't stand Margot. Echo the thoughts of PPs re maggot.

Jooni · 07/04/2017 09:20

Margot

Reow · 07/04/2017 09:17

OP are you due this month in RL? I think we may know each other.

grufallosfriend · 07/04/2017 09:17

Margot reminds me of escargot and maggot.

Mary is beautiful.

piefacedClique · 07/04/2017 09:12

I have a Margot. Everyone comments on how unusual it is. Maybe consider the alternative spelling margaux if you want to be diff. I like it but my brother told me I was being precocious!

ClaryBeanHorshAndMe · 07/04/2017 09:09

They're both nice. But I think I prefer Margot.
