Louisa (it's my least favourite. But I think it would work pretty much everywhere?)
Isadora (2nd favourite)
Virginia (absolute favourite. But it it too virginal?)

Oh, thanks. That's good to know. I think if DH and his family use the English pronunciation it's better. Because then that pronunciation is still the LO's name. But if we all say Yonatan and people at school (who see Jonathan) would obviously say it the English way... I think that could make a child kind of angry... maybe?
Plus, Jonathan would probably be an easier name in the UK...

Although, I do think that Yaron is really nice as well, tbh.

Ah, maybe that did happen. Trying to write Apolline with my ipad is genuinely awful (it keeps changing it...!!).

Isolde is out. DH is a bit "meh", but yeah... The pronunciation "issue", the whole Wagner thing. Nope...

About different sounding names. My DS is 2, but his name is pronounced differently by me (and my family) and by my husband (and all others where we live). We tried hard to find a name that sounds the same in the 3 languages we speak, but it was just not possible. So far my DS doesn't seem confused at all. He just replies to both versions.

So sorry, I've just seen your reply. I can't believe I turned it into another name. I still like it, and I like Yaron more than Yoran Grin

Isolde/Isolde and Tristan, I think is only similar to Romeo and Juliet, though less well known... perhaps. People use Juliet. Romeo, not so much Grin

I called my mother to ask if she liked the name Isolda. Her first response was "Wagner" and that she personally wouldn't go there...

Hm... Isadora is starting to look like an even better option ;)

Uhm... Yeah. Idk. Yoni is basically like Johnny imo. I'm pretty sure I went to school/kindergarten with several boys nicknamed Yoni :D Oh my heck. Next time I'll meet a little Yoni I may start looking like a tomato...

But if Yoni means vagina...And seeing as Yony/Yonee/Yoni seem like an obvious nickname for Yonatan. Does this mean we shouldn't go with Yonatan? But Yona is a lovely nickname as well... But Idk, Yona could become Yoni quickly, right?

I LOVE Yaron.

Mainly because I used to have a colleague called Yaron who was a big handsome bear of a man and one of the nicest guys I've ever met.
So, based on my vast experience of that one Yaron, I've concluded that all Yarons are lovely and you should definitely use that.

Isadora and Isolda are both good too.

I'll come back to Isolde/Isolda (my reference is Tristan and Isolde) but I'm popping in with a warning.

I don't think Yoni would make a good nick name. Unless it's only a Mumsnet thing, but I'm not sure it is, somebody mentioned yoni was from the Kama Sutra. Do other Mumsnetters remember Brian from Hull and the Yoni massages? Shock That's where I heard it.

I agree that Yoni is cute. And if when he's older he feels it is too cutesy he can move on to Yonathan if he wants. It's a flexible name.

I love Isadora too. Think Virginia is a lovely name but has great potential for your DD getting a lot of silly name calling once she's at school.

I don't like Isolde. That's so... Tristan and Isolde... Which, nope. The thing is, to me personally Isolda is pronunced differently, but I think that really depends on who you're asking? So, I think I have to tell DH that Isolda won't be happening.

That is off putting, I agree. I'm actually... Idk. So, nobody is thinking of Wagner when they hear Isolda? Or is it just not that negative in your opinion? I mean, I actually purposely didn't make a comment about Isolda in the OP, because I was genuinely curious about the associations in the UK....

Yes, I think it has actually put me off Emmett... Currently it's probably between Yonatan (and risk people thinking it's a creative spelling) and Jonathan (and risk confusing/upsetting the LO).

No one should have a problem saying Yonatan. It's easy enough to say. I know of one and he is called Yoni.

Not keen on Arik or Emmett.

OP, in southern, my husband is northern. One of our sons is Alexander-I say Alex-are-nduh and my husband says Alex-and-uh. I admit, we rarely use the full name unless he is in the shit, but it's never bothered him at all.

As for the Emmett connotations, I'm originally from Devon and previous posters are correct. Arik is great though, and Jonathan has so many potential nn which is good (I think anyway)
