My husband is of another nationality and we are struggling for a boys name which works for both languages / cultures.

He suggested Elvis which I immediately rejected - but within about 2 mins it started growing on me and is now one of the only contenders!!

So - with the return of the "old-fashioned" names, has enough time passed for Elvis to work as a name in the UK?

I quite like unusual names - so not worried that it is not too common.

We have an Elvis in the family. He's a teenager now and doesn't get picked on. It was a shocker when they announced it but I really like it now.

Well, there were 35 boys named Elvis in 2015... So, it's actually more commen (popular) than many imo quite ordinary names we've been considering.

It isn't my cup of tea... But the name seems to be starting to grow on me as well (my inital reaction was: "no". Now? I think it would be ok...)

Do you like Alvis, Alvin or Elwin?

I personally quite like Alvin, tbh.

I bet 9 - 13 year olds today don't event know who "the" Elvis was - never mind those in 2030 (!!!) which would be more than 50 yrs after his death!!!

Well you'd be very foolish to think this. Elvis is one of the most iconic celebrities of all time. If anything his status as iconic celebrity seems to increase year on year. My 4 year old nephew knows who Elvis is.

Not a good name to give a kid. Every third person he'd meet would start singing 'you ain't nothin' but a hound dog.......'

Albanian name? I know a 20 something Elvis and it's not an issue but it would be a bit radical for me, saying that I love the albanian name Aslan but couldn't bring myself to use it!

Everyone should know who Elvis is.

Nope.

Teenagers definitely know who Elvis is and will in 50 years. Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin etc. died 50 years ago and people are still banging on about them.

I rather like it, but then I share a first name and surname combo with someone nearly as famous.

My 8 year old also knows who Elvis Presley was.

Ha ha - it's actually more the Fireman Sam connection that concerns me as I can barely be in the same room as that program!!

So mixed views! I'm not sure I love the name - but good to know it's not a universal "no" if we really don't come up with anything else!!

Everyone knows who elvis is. Also it's a character in firman Sam. I don't like it.

Such a cool name. Yes the connection with the most famous Elvis will be there, but can't see a problem. The name Jesus is used commonly in some countries & I've met two personally who have coped without too much negativity.

I know a teenage Elvis. He's a lovely lad, and as far as I know has no problems with his name.

All of mine know / knew who Elvis is, and, if you mention his name, would start singing one of his songs.
I wouldn't - to me it's one of those few names that everyone will always associate with one person, so for anyone else, it will be presumed they are named after them.

I considered it for ds, dh wasn't keen. If I didn't love the name he has, I'd regret not using it - it would've really suited him. Go for it, neither of my dcs have heard of him (11 and 7).

I worked with one on my travels and thought it was a very cool name! He had an exotic surname too, which made it all the better. Go for it!

Yeah, why not! It's ace. I went to school with one, but his parents were slightly mad as they'd lumbered him with the full name Elvis Aaron Presley Surname.
