Fake names for nosey people?

Did you come up with a fake name to give to the nosey parkers who wouldn't stop asking about the name?

We never found out the sex in either pregnancy so i was happy to say x for a boy or y for a girl. In not sure what the big deal is tbh.

If you want to keep it a secret just say you haven't decided yet.

DH and I plan to start trying for our first baby soon - if we get pregnant with twins, he wants to see how long we can convince the grandparents they're going to be called Shaniqua and Maude Smile

We went with "Nigel...after Nigel Farage". Was a lot of fun with people who didn't know if we were serious or not.

My DM was digging around to find out our names. I left out a baby name book with highlighted names that I knew she'd hate. She never mentioned looking in the book, but I knew she wouldn't be able to resist it. When we eventually had DS1 she was thrilled that we didn't use any of the 'silly' names from the book.

ChristmasSeacow this was my thinking too, it's one thing to be told the name you like is shit (don't mind this so much, or else I wouldn't be on here) but another to feel actively pressured into changing it

We're calling unborn DD Frogmella at the moment. We have chosen a real name we like but are keeping it to ourselves because we don't want to hear others' opinions in advance and because we just might look at her after she is born and feel our chosen name isn't right.

We did the same with DS, using a completely Improbable name (not British and sounded ridiculous with our surname).

BIL and SIL recently had a baby and they told everyone the off-the-wall name they were thinking of in advance. They got a lot of push back from the upset grandparents and it caused a bit of tension, although they didn't bow to pressure and stuck with their choice in the end. They'd have saved a lot of grief if they'd just presented a fait accompli!

My DM is a retired teacher and her first initial is E, she always used to tell her pupils that her first name was Ermintrude. I never seem to have an opportunity to use a similar ruse though.

We have had fun for years though "choosing" mad names from TV/books/friends of friends for our hypothetical future DCs - my favourites were Honoria and Leicester (from Bleak House). We lost several pregnancies before we adopted our two DCs and the first one will always be Nigel and/or Delia (from Shameless).

MyWhatICallNameChange one of our bumps was Ermintrude for a while.

DC 3 was Rioja or Bud at work. Our office was in a town where lots of parents chose yoonique or trendy names and the first Chardonnay's were starting school.

Both of ours did.

I don't know what it says about us that our family and friends believed us, I know that it only says good things about them that they only ever expressed gentle concern (if at all, although there were plenty of carefully neutral faces!) at the ridiculous names.

In my first trimester I dreamt, rather vividly, that I gave birth to a hippopotamus called Philomena Flump and thus the bump was christened. DH actually really started to like Philomena. I just couldn't have a girl called Phil!

For those saying why bother just tell people the truth - I found when I was truthful .... we're thinking about xyz then people always seemed to have an opinion and it put me off ... so didn't bother to tell people after that til they were born

We did, and used the names so much they are still a nickname nowadays. We didn't even use the right gender as we didn't want to tell people!
