I think at the moment it is a bit of a joke name, sorry. Sounds like a prim and proper little Victorian boy in a frilly or lacey collar, so it seems a bit wussy.

Have heard of the 'pointing Percy' thing too, I think it was supposed to be Australian slang, but really Barry Humphries invented it (you know, the alter ego of Dame Edna Everage). I don't know whether it will still be an association for your son's generation though, maybe not.

I don't think the world is ready for Percy to come around again.

I know of a Percival nn Percy. Child of a colleague at my previous place of work. Colleague is exceedingly posh and quite pretentious (posh of itself I have no real objection to). I think of Percy as a posh and pretentious name so when I heard my colleague had called his son Percy i thought it was very fitting.

I think Percy Jackson has helped the name but not quite enough.

You know the 'supreme court judge test' for names that's often mentioned on this board? That is, 'can you imagine name x on a judge?'

Well there is also the 'heat of passion' test. Can you imagine calling out 'oh Percy!' in the heat of passion? Personally I can't, because it sounds like the name of a cartoon train.

Worth considering. Not a sexy name.

Percy Montgomery was a rather nice South African rugby player. Long blonde hair and all!

I like it. I met a little one on the weekend with sisters Audrey and Dorothy and thought that was a lovely set of names.

When I was growing up in the seventies and early eighties all of the boys seemed to refer to their willies as Percy.

For that reason alone I wouldn't use it, even if I did like it.

I prefer it for a girl actually, short for Persephone, though spelling more like Persie...

Percy Jackson is positive association, but my 'worry' (this is at least the second time in a week Percy has been mentioned! ) is that it might date, if it becomes popular again and is short lived

Percival only if you're landed gentry and it's a family name, and even then it's not good.
