Feelings on now feminine names for boys?

Previous post... Selwyn didn't seem too popular.

Now I'm thinking about names that lean a bit more feminine these days:

Vivian

Hilary

Kelly

Thoughts? Also any other suggestions of feminine names for boys?

How selfish of you. Get a grip, seriously. There's hundreds of perfectly decent male names you can use. Stop trying to be so bloody 'trendy'.

NotRumpole - maybe because Francis and Frances sound the same?

Gabriel is quite soft, so it could be considered feminine, but it's definitely always been a boy's name. Except of course when they can't get a boy to dress up as an angel for the Nativity, then it's a girl's name

Why have people suggested Francis and Gabriel?! They are only ever boys' names Confused

Bitchfromhell · 17/03/2017 00:17

I know a Kim and a Stacey. Both builders, never given it a thought until now. Neither seem the type to have been picked on at school but I'm not sure how I'd know.

MsJuniper · 17/03/2017 00:16

Laurence (female name in France)

TinklyLittleLaugh · 17/03/2017 00:09

I went to school with boys called Lyn, Kelly, Ceri and Kim. I don't think anyone was particularly teased.

Buttercup - yes, I'm truly a sadist

LostInTheColonies - there's so many of these which I love but I'm also thinking... Yeah I wouldn't, and shouldn't.

Did you want a girl? Why set a boy up for a life time of ridicule? How cruel.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/03/2017 23:58

I always think of Evelyn as a man's name thanks to Mr Waugh.

PodgeBod · 16/03/2017 23:54

I never said that I liked names like James or Elliot for girls either. I think they will probably get teased a bit but I do think it will be worse for boys. Of course it shouldn't be but kids are pretty brutal.
Just giving my opinion really. Good luck finding a name that you love for your baby.

LostInTheColonies · 16/03/2017 23:51

Evelyn (Waugh). I woudn't do it though!

What about Jesse?

Clive James started life as Vivian Leopold...

SuperBeagle · 16/03/2017 23:47

I like Lindsay for a boy.

Also like Joss.

SuperBeagle · 16/03/2017 23:46

Rowan seems really masculine to me.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/03/2017 23:42

I love Kim and Kelly on men, but not on women.

I wouldn't say these were feminine names, but unisex.

user1489577919 · 16/03/2017 23:39

Crème, Sophronia - love Dara but doesn't work with the surname

Nellooo - I'm thinking a Young Ones themed nursery

hoddtastic · 16/03/2017 23:38

i know a few Francis' none of them have a negative view of their name?

user1489577919 · 16/03/2017 23:36

Podge - but little girls are being happily called James/Elliot/Dylan? I'm not looking at calling a boy Maisy, just at names that were traditionally for men but have now shifted.

I understand the school teasing comments but I'm finding 'his whole life' a little dramatic.

PodgeBod · 16/03/2017 23:31

I think a young boy will find it very hard to live with a "girls name". It will be commented on his whole life. A boy named Vivian or Kelly or similar will be laughed at. I don't want to sound harsh but I would feel quite sorry for the little boy who had to carry that.

Sophronia · 16/03/2017 23:09

Also Trace/Tracy

Sophronia · 16/03/2017 23:08

Tracey is a boy's name in some cultures.

I know a male Bev and a Lindsay.
