International, slightly unusual names

They need to sound good in English and German. And shouldn't cause any major issues for Italian and French speaking people...

Peregrine (too Lord of the Rings?)

I wouldn't have thought Elric would be that tricky in the UK at least. Yes, he might have to say 'not erik' - but how many names have no options on spelling. And I reckon it's a name people would remember.

Just to throw something else into the mix, I used to know a Dax which is simple but unusual.

From your original list I really like Anton and Julius (also Anton was DH's grandfather's name).

Vincent is cute too. I really can't get into Eric, Alaric etc. though and Emmett is definitely Midwest redneck.

I love Felix, but if I had a penny for every one round here I'd be able to retire tomorrow!

Well, you kind of did. You couldn't know about that kind of nasty piece of family history, could you...? But I do really really like that name :)!! And if there wasn't the whole Klaus/Nicholas/etc issue that would probably be the name if DC2 turns out to be a boy.

I agree. Just googled the popularity of Finn and Oscar. Both are lovely names, but too popular

Alaric is nice... Erik is really cool. But I do think Elric is nicer... Or would we be dooming the LO to constantly spell his name? "No, not Erik. Elric. Nooo. E-L-R-I-C. ELRIC!"

Eric is nice. But I think I may actually prefer Elric? A name I actually found because of the Ichabod/Icky thread :)!

On another name thread Ichabod (it IS a real name!) is getting bandied about - and you know what? I find it fabulous grin wish we had called DS Ichabod - little Bodie!

Is it too fashionable in the UK? Or too Lord of the RIngs? But yes. I think Peregrine nn Perry (or Perino or Idk.. Periniello...?) is really fabulous. :)!

But let's say there was this (now dead) dude in your family. And he had been a really really horrible bastard.

So, not to dredge up old, painful memories (and because pregnancy actually makes you a little bit supseritious, for weird, even to you absolutely unknown reasons) you decide that his name/similar ones just can't be used.

So, no Klaus, Nicholas, Niccola etc...

But then comes Nils. And you really really like it. But you just feel that it may be kind of bad luck. Uhm... yeah.

To whoever said Cillian is pronounced Sillion, that's completely wrong . It's most definitely Kill-ee-an, it's a well known Irish name.
