I have a son named Oscar.

I really love Maddie. Thoughts?

I like Madeleine, but not Maddie. Ruled it out for my DD because of the McCann connection, but that was 8 years ago. It wouldn't necessarily put me off if I were thinking about it now.

MrsBungle · 14/03/2017 22:39

Madeleine is a lovely name. I really dislike Maddie though.

Foureyesarebetterthantwo · 14/03/2017 22:37

My dd had two good friends called Holly and Jessica. It did go through my mind, but their names are lovely and they are lovely, there's nothing more to think than that, they are their names.

I think Madeleine is a lovely name too, I just can't spell it!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 14/03/2017 22:37

Maddie makes me think of Dance Moms thank you DSD Shock

TwentyCups · 14/03/2017 22:35

I think because it was a much less common name, and it's what the newspapers called her.

Anyway OP, as I said before nobody from the younger generations will make this connection so don't be put off.

I really don't understand the Madeleine McCann references every time that this name comes up on a thread.

Every Holly, Jessica and Sarah thread doesn't have this. Why Madeleine?! Sad

TwentyCups · 14/03/2017 22:10

For me it is maddie McCann, sorry.

However, it won't be for your daughters peers, or really anyone under 18 currently I imagine.

Lilly16 · 14/03/2017 22:08

I like it :)

Madeleine is lovely, but sadly it's tainted for me.

joystir59 · 14/03/2017 22:04

I just think of the missing child, sorry

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/03/2017 22:03

Not keen.

MadisonAvenue · 14/03/2017 21:50

Lovely name!

Gummibears · 14/03/2017 21:49

Maddie makes me think of someone or something very mad. I'm not keen, sorry

Lovely name. I've taught a few Maddies over the years and they have always been lovely!

I agree with pp, it will always be associated with the mccanns now, but I think once people meet your little Maddie, they will associate it will her, so I wouldn't let it put you off.

wickerlampshade · 14/03/2017 21:40

Forever associated with the mccanns. I wouldn't.

GraceW · 14/03/2017 21:37

Yes, Madeleine on BC, but would go by Maddie until she decides.

Just gives me sad thoughts. . Lovely name tho.

GeillisTheWitch · 14/03/2017 21:36

I'd use Madeleine and shorten it rather than just have Maddie on the birth certificate, other than that can't see a problem.
