I love...
-Delilah (nn Lilah)
-Pearl
-Betsy (given name Elizabeth)
-Valentine
-Emmeline (nn Emmy)

DH dislikes all except Emmeline, which he thinks is only ok. But he has no suggestions of his own.

You can be harsh Wink

Also Lila sounds a lot like Delilah and doesn't have the negative song associations. Lila Mary lovely!

Wineandchocolatebiscuits · 12/03/2017 02:23

Juliette?

Emmeline and it's nicknames are lovely.

My dd has a middle name Mary too Smile

Also marianne?

I showed DH this thread and he felt justified in his dislike for Delilah because of the song! I still love it.

But he's even more keen on Emmeline now. And is coming round to Betsy (Elizabeth)...

I'm put off Valentine /a because of the celeb baby.

Whatever we think of these names, don't you need something that your DH likes?

Though, yes, he needs to do some suggesting.

Nancy
Harriet (Hattie)
Hepzibah (Epsy or Hepzi )
Miriam (mimi)
Bia

Would be on my list

Delilah (nn Lilah) - I like Lila, but not Delilah. The Tom Jones song is a classic...I think it will still be around as she grows up.

-Pearl - I don't like it. Not a fan of the granny chic.

-Betsy (given name Elizabeth) - Elizabeth is great and so versatile. Betsy is really cute for a baby and then she can be Elizabeth or Libby/Lizzy/Ellie/Eliza/Betty/Beth etc. if she wants when she's older.

-Valentine - is a boys name. Valentina for a girl, but Marvin JLS and Rochelle Saturday have just named their baby this.

-Emmeline (nn Emmy) - I like it and really like Emmy, but I think it could be about to become really popular. I'd never heard it on a baby until 3 years ago and now I know several.

KoolKoala07 · 11/03/2017 23:20

I know an emmeline. She pronounces it emma-lean.

TalkingofMichaelAngel0 · 11/03/2017 23:18

I like emmiline and betsy. I Know a valentine. Definitely a man's name.

Notso · 11/03/2017 23:15

Delilah, the song would put me off. I can hear the why, why, why jokes when you announce the name. I love Lilah but that's a song issue too, my friend has a Lyla who gets "hey" constantly.
Pearl, OK.
Betsy/Elizabeth, Elizabeth is fine. Not keen on Betsy, I like Bet though.
Valentine, awful. I can't imagine introducing myself with that name.
Emmeline. LOVE IT, I prefer Em or Millie as a nn

I don't think BB is bad. It makes me think of Bibi & Tina, Bibi is a teenage witch ;)

Gemmy89 · 11/03/2017 23:05

Ooh Cecily...

If we went with Betsy... Her surname will begin with a "B" and I do love an alliterative name. Betsy B... too cutesy?

Don't like any I'm with your DH

safm · 11/03/2017 23:04

My baby is Mabel Emmeline as it was a compromise on the name Emily. I have found that people do not pronounce it the way I want it they say Emma-Lin whereas it should be as it is spelt rhyming with Caroline iyswim

From you list I like Betsy or Emmeline :)

Sophronia · 11/03/2017 23:03

Love Emmeline, and Delilah and Pearl are quite nice.

CocoLoco87 · 11/03/2017 23:01

Valentina was on my list for a girl! I also really like Emmeline but would always shorten it to Emmy.
Pearl seems a bit old barmaid in leopard print for some reason lol.

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 11/03/2017 22:58

-Delilah (nn Lilah): nice
-Pearl: That's imo a nn.
-Betsy (given name Elizabeth): very nice
-Valentine: lovely, I do prefer Valentina
-Emmeline (nn Emmy): Emmily, Amelie, Amelia... They're all so very popular.

What about Victoria nn Kiki/Tori?

ceeveebee · 11/03/2017 22:58

I like Emmeline and Pearl

Similar names could be Evangeline, Cecily, Delia, Lily?

Winterflower84 · 11/03/2017 22:56

Emmeline!
If Valentine, then it should be Valentina for a girl.

Gemmy89 · 11/03/2017 22:56

Though having said he has no suggestions, he did say Mary after his Granny. But not because he likes the name, just because it would mean something.

I don't mind Mary, but don't love it. I said middle name and he agreed.

cosmic - would you say which two you used? Or would you rather not? (Totally understand if you'd rather not reveal too much!)

OP posts:
Gemmy89 · 11/03/2017 22:52

susy - great suggestions! Bess and Agnes are lovely

OP posts:
Gemmy89 · 11/03/2017 22:50

He has absolutely no suggestions! it's driving me mad. He just says no to names and brings none to the discussion. Arg!

If I could have a crowd of daughters I'd use them all, I love them so much.

His least favourite is Delilah because of the Tom Jones song. I said none of her friends will know it. It won't be part of their pop culture like it is ours.

Interesting that a celeb has just had a Valentine / a. That actually crosses it off the list for me!

LouisevilleLlama · 11/03/2017 22:49

Sorry I dislike them all

00100001 · 11/03/2017 22:49

Amelia?
